Tyene and the High Sparrow

Recommended Posts

During A Dance With Dragons Doran Martell sent his niece Tyene Sand, the most devious and sinister of the Sand Snakes, to King's Landing under a septa disguise to approach the new High Septon, the infamous High Sparrow to know what kind of man he is and if he can be influenced or become an ally.

It is certain that we will see the two interacting together in The Winds of Winter, maybe we won't see their first meeting but they'll surely be seen talking together and it's not impossible that we see Tyene but without it being told that it's her at first, most likely it will be someone else who'll first view her as just another septa.

What do you expect to happen between these two characters ? What attitude and approach do you think that Tyene will take to try to make the best impression on this man strong as a wall and unflinching in his faith and ideals ?

Will she be really able to befriend and earn the trust of him ? How will the High Sparrow react to this visible unusual septa ? Will she be able of influence him, and if yes how much  influence could she have on him ?

I think shel play the pious puritan (or posion a few to rise through the ranks)  and as someone educated will be around the high sparrow, shel push that cersei and the lannisters have gotten off too lightly ,letting lords get  trial by combat is an affront to the 7 and  that ser robert strong is an abomination etc etc

Or even stay within the faith as a high ranking dorne asset...the whole concept of varys of power being where men think it lies is true and she may remain an asset to manipulate the church to be pro dorne.

Part of the theme of the books has been well laid plans falling apart and needing improvisation, i think shel be too clever and ett caught out or try and seduce the high sparrow and fail to be tortured!

I can see the interaction between the High Sparrow and Tyene developing along the lines of the relationship between Stannis and Melisandre. The two men are similar in certain respects, both stern, austere and absolute, their maxim including the punishment of crimes but also rewards for good deeds (Stannis) and forgiveness of sin (High Sparrow). Tyene mirrors Melisandre;  both are alluring and yet deadly.

I can see Tyene eventually swaying the High Sparrow by using her knowledge of the Seven Pointed Star and her apparent innocence to good effect. Perhaps she will demonstrate a certain power that he may come to want to rely on.

With her deep blue eyes, dressed in the white gown of a septa, and her "otherworldly innocence," Tyene also comes across as a Night's Queen archtype. Like the 13th LC who was a "crow" who could not resist the lure of the NQ, "flying down off the Wall" to capture her, the High Sparrow, another "bird" character, might be equally enthralled by the "otherworldly" Tyene.
