Mladen
Tonight we begin with the televised award shows. The first of them is Golden Globes, organized by HFPA - Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Ravaged by the scandals the past few years, HFPA will try to regain its status as one of the most important film awards precursors in Oscar season. I honestly thought I will be having problems choosing favorites, but all in all, a lot of uninspiring movies. Great number of movies flopped, a lot of great movies don't get noticed by these awarding bodies... Let's hope it gets better.

I haven't seen it so I can't say, but rare is it that I see a movie that wows me and EEAAO is exactly that. It's more deserving than Top Gun: Maverick, that's for sure. Also, interesting that it and Avatar didn't win shit. Thought Top Gun fever was real.

I totally prefer EEAAO to Banshees, but I still appreciate the quality of Banshees, its a good movie, I just didn't love it and I thought its message was a bit heavy handed and didn't actually make for a compelling story. Ran
Everything Everywhere All at Once is both pretty good and also really, really over-rated (especially online). It's self-indulgent and undisciplined, throwing out ideas a mile a minute to the point of cartoon absurdity. It could have stood to be about 30 minutes shorter, too. Raja
Thankfully top gun didn't win anything. That would have been a real low point.

I tend to disagree, I've watched it a couple of times now and I think it earns every single minute, I enjoyed pretty much every single scene. You can call something self-indulgent if the audience enjoys something less than the creator but for me I was more than indulged by everything in the movie. Also, Topgun is not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination. They should create a separate category for movies like Top Gun and Avatar. Something that barely qualifies as a movie, but more like a funfair ride.

The fact that neither Avatar, Top Gun nor Elvis won anything (save Austin Butler) is a good news. Blanchett and Yeoh winning in their respective categories is well-derserved, Farrell is undoubtedly champion and my pick for Oscars, "The Fabelmans" - not the worst choice. But my heart goes to Ke Huy Quan and Angela Bassett.
