Hopefully the Dutch beat this average Argentina team.

They have a very good shot.  Argentina certainly weren't great today.  Hard to see either win overall though but you never know.  Once you get to the semis...

The Dutch are a bit boring but are well structured and technically good.   When Argentina are put under pressure they do look vulnerable.  That's what Australia tried to do and the Saudis.  Poland gave them way too much respect.

Messi is a big advantage of course but he doesn't get a lot of help.

The first Dutch goal was very good.  And once the US went behind, they showed their inexperience at this level.  They are a young side though, so have 4 years to improve.  And find a striker.

We're fucked.

Arsenal fans all in despair on Twitter with the news, while Brazilian fans completely indifferent to him being out of the WC- some pricks even celebrating.

Tite's insistence on him since the last WC, starting all games even when it was clear Firmino was in good form and he was not, and continuing with him in his massive goal drought (one in the last 23 games) really destroyed the respect and affection fans had built for him. He's now the striker with the worst numbers in Brazil's WC history. Reports from the press that even the very fair-weather and indifferent crowd of (very wealthy) supporters in Qatar was booing him. No way he survives a qualifying game in Brazil with the entire stadium against him from the moment he steps on the pitch, he lost his confidence.

USMNT caught out by a superior team. They are not top tier yet, although they can give top tier teams (like England) a hard time. Lots to dissect in this showing against the Dutch, but of course the lack of a striker up front was the worst of it (US/Dutch 6 shots at goal of which the latter made more of it).

Going out in the round of 16 is an old story for the US, except that one time in 2002. Something different needs to happen next time around. Also, Pulisic is not the finished article yet - he has good control over the ball, but centering the team around him seems a bit foolhardy.

Tite announced that Alexsandro is out of the game against South Korea, but Danilo is coming back, and didn't confirmed nor ruled out Neymar yet. Brazilian press thinks he'll be on the bench and be used in the 2nd half if we're not winning.

With no natural left-backs on the squad, I'm guessing he'll put Danilo there, since he has played on the position before. Which means there's a real possibility on the right of 39 year old Daniel Alves marking Son :uhoh:

Pochettino's English is not very good, considering how long he coached in England.

Every time he's asked a question on the BBC, he speaks for ages and ages, just blabbering on, and I can barely understand a word he is saying.

Unai Emery's English is way better than his. But I guess Mauricio gets a pass because he never said good ebening at the beginning of every press conference.
