For real. My God--when I got my first dose back in 98, my memory is I walked down a line with healthcare workers on both sides of the line. As you walked, they jabbed you until the end of the line where you bent over and got a penicillin shot in the butt which left me (and all the other new soldiers) hobbled for a week.

When I was in basic , I was in USAF Reserves and went through basic training like any other recruit.
We were given a Swine Flu shot and no choice about it.  It was also controversial at the time.  At I felt like ‘join the AF, become a pin cushion’.

Arizona is just Florida without the beaches and gators. But they do have mountain lions and rattlesnakes!!!

And without locals forcing themselves on cat and dogs and what not. (182)

Why do you think mountain lions ran for Arizona. I am fairly sure they used to be beach lions. But Florida forced an evolution on them.

Alas, Floridians don't believe in evolution, thus evolution has presumably abandoned Floridians at some point. (181).

Member in top standing of the blob media, NPR, had on All Things Considered a good bad 10+ minutes of Newt Gingrich instructing his party of xtian fascists and nazis what to grab from Biden's successes as a candidate and as POTUS, and from Pelosi's too, to STOP IT.  Also why the Dems are dreadful traitors to the USA.  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. :whip:

First Gen Z congressman-elect says he was denied DC apartment over bad credit

https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/09/politics/maxwell-frost-dc-apartment-denied/index.html

The congressman-elect set to become the first member of Generation Z to serve in Congress said Thursday his rental application for an apartment in Washington, DC, was denied because of his “really bad” credit.

“Just applied to an apartment in DC where I told the guy that my credit was really bad. He said I’d be fine. Got denied, lost the apartment, and the application fee. This ain’t meant for people who don’t already have money,” Maxwell Frost said in a tweet.

Frost, an Orlando-based community organizer, made history last month when he won election in Florida’s 10th Congressional District at just 25 years old. Frost surprised party leaders with his victory in a crowded primary filled with senior political figures to replace outgoing Rep. Val Demings, before comfortably winning against his Republican opponent in a solidly blue district.

I gotta think he set himself up to fail to score political points.  It would take a particularly braindead landlord to deny a newly seated congressman with a guaranteed salary of 174k a year. Both on the financial count and the political count. Something tells me he neglected to inform the renter of his newly acquired employment.

Looks like some folks will be getting student loan relief after all - if they work for a nonprofit or in the public sector and have made at least 120 payments already. It's a revision of a Bush II era program that conservatives are stubbornly trying to stick to Obama. Seems to enjoy more support than Biden's first proposal. Might be interesting to see if Biden can manage enough other court proof legal chicanery to grant student loan relief to still more folks.

called it. Transphobia is just repackaged misogyny and in this case racism.

I saw a picture of her being escorted by Russian guards and holy crap, she’s the size of a mountain. Trading the arms dealer for her could be justified on the basis of the fact she must be one of the rarest people in the US. I tried to find a website I’ve used before, but just wasn’t using the right keywords I guess, where you can enter the height of a person and it would tell you what percentile people of that height were in, in the US. (I did find a site but it wasn’t working properly for me).

I found one site that said men who are 6’9” are a tinier number than I realized, there are 3,200 in the US, and gave Larry Bird as an example. I forgot to check the date on the article, maybe there are more now, but I gather the data comes from the US census. There’s only one person in the US who is 7’5”, that Chinese basketball player. I could not find a similar statistic for women, but Griner must be one of only a handful of women that tall. 14% of US men are over 6’ tall, but only 1% of women are.

I saw that the 99th percentile for men is 6’3.5”, but for women it’s 5’9.7”, much lower than I thought.

eta: of course as soon as I posted I found the website, and if you enter 6’9” for a woman the percentile comes up as 100%. If I’m reading it right I think there’s only one woman that tall and that’s Griner. Rare indeed. The website is Tall.life.

Well, she's the second tallest player in the WNBA*, so she's an on the upper end in a sport's league, where it is an advantage to be tall. So she is tall among the tall.

*Bernadett Hatar is a bit taller at 6'10'' to save you the trouble of googling.

I think I misread the website and it showed 1 taller woman, not that she was the only one. But I assume there are more, I don’t know how to access the latest US census data. The old stuff that shows up on Facebook pretty well shows 100% as the percentile for everyone taller than 6’4”.

I understand the concept of using the gifts that God/Mother Nature gave you, but I don’t watch sports much because I don’t like what has happened in some sports. l actually find many of them distasteful because of the teams being loaded with such extreme examples of people I can’t relate to it. I guess it’s exciting for many people to watch the 99.5 percentile, or the 99.9 percentile, of humans smashing into each other but it seems to me it’s the modern version of the carnival sideshow.

Modern version of carnival show? That's another Florida joke down. (179)

Bread and circuses. Is more on point I think. And nah, people don't watch sports to see the freaks. Well, maybe to some degree with the NFL and Hockey, where you get the monster hit that gave that guy a concassion in five different angles. (Tucker vs. Kapanen in '04 comes to mind, with Kapanen having obvious problems finding his way back to the bench, or Steven vs. Kariya).

Private RNC member emails reveal anger at Trump, frustration with McDaniel’s response to him
In missives sent to all 168 members, several committeemen expressed horror with the Nick Fuentes dinner. One wanted the chair to speak out.

A handful of Republican National Committee members denounced former President Donald Trump, with one pushing for fellow members and RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel to forcefully condemn his decision to host a pre-Thanksgiving dinner with antisemites.

“I am flabbergasted at the lack of outrage from Ronna about this,” Oscar Brock, a national committeeman from Tennessee, wrote in one of a series of private email threads obtained by POLITICO. “I tweeted to her yesterday, asking her to condemn this. We must, as a party, oppose all racism and prejudice, and condemn those who accept and endorse it, which includes inviting neo-nazi’s [sic] to dinner.”

The emails, which were sent to all 168 committee members’ email addresses, offer a rare glimpse at the agitation that is roiling among some in the Republican National Committee at a moment of intense scrutiny of the institution and the party it represents. It also brings to the surface tensions over whether or not McDaniel can or should lead the RNC in this current political climate, with an increasingly undisciplined Trump launching a third presidential run and the party coming to terms with midterm losses that many blame on the former president. McDaniel claims the support of a majority of committee members, but has recently faced challenges for the chair position.

He said he filled out a rental application and employment must be noted on these forms.  Most likely, DC is a tough rental market and there were other applicants with better credit histories and other factors and one of those got the apartment.  The same has happened to me here.

Yeah, I just read in another news story how he was just driving an Uber to help get by. I also read in the same story that he at one point made 94 K a year in some political job, which is a decent chunk change, at least to me. I don't have all the facts, but I think the dude's struggles are genuine. And I've been in similar situations starting up a new job when you haven't been paid the first check yet.

Mostly I'm just glad there's someone in Congress actually bringing these rental issues up. Because these 60 year old white male fuckers aren't going to. Either they are the landlords or they have simply never been denied a lease in their lives.

Yeah it's definitely genuine.  AOC mentioned the same thing about not being able to afford a DC apartment when she was first elected.  They may be using it for political purposes, but they're not lying about it.

Uber is a job but not the best for a stable income, I would assume.  What I see with the political job, aren't many of them temporary?  Once the election is over, the job ends.  With fewer apartments and more renters, it's a landlords market and difficult for folks with less than stellar credit and other issues.

As of several years ago at least, members of the House get paid on the first of the month. And he isn't a member until January 3rd, which would mean no salary until Feb 1. If his credit is bad, I could see a lot of landlords denying him over concerns about whether he's good for the December/January rent (and February too if rent is due before the first). Especially if it's one of the bigger rental companies that is probably an automated system that can't account for "hey, it's a congressman; we'll be fine".
