That probably is down to some extent to the uniqueness of this season's schedule. Pre-season is the time when the foundations for the seasons are laid. Physically and tactically. The Qatar event cut the pre-season short. Add to that a shortened of season for the players to recharge and you can to some degree explain it.

It’s a factor but this trend was already underway.  Liverpool pushed for a quadruple last year despite limping through the last few months.  This team peaked with the CL and PL triumphs and have been declining since.  They initially had a naïve explosiveness that carried them to runners up in both CL and PL before they finally peaked with a more composed and ruthless version to claim those titles.  They maintained that ruthlessness last year even as the underlying explosiveness and physicality ebbed away.

Yes Jurgen , keep telling us we don't have "monopoly" money instead of buying a fucking  midfielder.

No fan is asking to spend 100 million in Jan. But surely you can get a decent one for 40-50 mill?

Imagine if Thiago or Fab get injured and we haven't bought one. There are still so many games to play.

Brentford are about to reach an agreement with Freiburg about Kevin Schade. That's their new quick atacking player.

They were trying to sign the German u21 international in the summer already. Freiburg were/are not particularly keen to sell, as they felt it would be more beneficial for the club and the player('s development), if Schade stayed in Freiburg for a few more years. Schade's dream is to play for top club in England, so he has always been open to a move to the EPL, but he wasn't exactly unhappy at staying at Freiburg, as that's a relatively low pressure enviroment with a good track record of developing players. Anyway, Freiburg's posiiton was, we'd like Schade to stay, but if we receive an offer that's too good to turn down, that might change. Brentford's new offer appears to have been in the too good to turn down category for Freiburg. Gonna be interesting, how he does in Brentford.
Liverpool were reportedly interested in Schade a couple of years ago, but back then he felt it was better for his development to stay in Freiburg.

Schade is not a target man. He is a pacey forward/winger. Technically and tactically well trained. And with pacey I mean Alphonso Davies sorta pace. It's a bit of a gamble, since Schade just turned 21. Blue chip prospect, but still just a prospect. If he works out, they have a future star player.

This Brighton team is there for the taking.

Unfortunately, we have decided defending is optional. So instead of having ripped Brighton apart, we're three down. Why Lampard decided the back three that worked fine last week should be abandoned I don't know, but it has been a completely shockingly bad desicion given the game.

At this point, take DCL off. No need taking risks with our only potentially good striker, who has been injured a lot.

We're four down, this is lost, utterly, completely, irrevocably, and most importantly, *stupidly* lost.

The funeral for Pelé ended today, with the presence of thousands of people, authorities and former teammates. Notably absent were every member of the 94 and 2002 teams, apart from Mauro Silva. That after during Qatar CONMEBOL made a tribute to him during an event and Ronaldo, Cafu, Roberto Carlos and Kaká, who were there working for FIFA, didn't bother showing up (but Javier Zanetti did), which left people fuming.
