Sad thing is after the fun of mocking these shitheads ends, they will be in control and their chances of seriously fucking up people's lives is pretty high. And it will come with a level of vindictiveness that's probably worse than what Trump would do.

Idk about more vindictiveness. I think it doesn't matter which of the wings is in charge and the biggest problems I can see are a) publicly exposing Hunter's penis, so to speak... oh well... and b) the debt ceiling. I assume that could be a real and huge problem.

As for all the committees "investigating" Biden, Fauci et al, I hope all of these have learnt their Mark Meadows lesson (no consequences for snubbing subpoenas) and give them the middle finger.

Surely the AG is so principled that he wouldn't enforce their subpoenas...

ETA: OMG, Santos' nomination speech ...:rofl:oh, the humiliation!

JGP -- you seem to be familiar with the writings of Wadestradamus. The prophecy must be realized :leer:

Uncle Joe's star has been rising ever since the (mostly forgotten) AFG withdrawal debacle, and both the mid-terms and Republican speaker issues have only further enhanced his bright, shining lie(ght). Unless health or age prevents it, he'll run again. And although he's not my idea of what a good man and leader should be, I suspect he'd win again. The zeitgeist demands it!

I’ve been wondering about that too.  I suspect it was the squatter in the Speaker’s office.

From what I've read, it likely happened automatically. There wasn't any permanent law or regulation that the metal detectors be there, it was just a rule from last session. And that rule, like every other one, expired at 11:30am on Jan. 3. So there was no authorization for the detectors to be there and they were simply removed by facilities.

Again, after an election, as we roll into January 6th, again terrorists have the Capitol under siege -- by the same terrorists who aided and abetted the more media exciting one that came after the election of two years ago.

Either way, the overt violence way, or this chaos way, They get Their objective, to destroy the US federal government.

As Heather Cox Richardson says:

Quote

.... That Republicans now have a wing openly determined to destroy the federal government is not a function of a few outliers who have wormed their way into Congress; it is the logical outcome of this worldview. Lawmakers like Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) are clearly enjoying the power they are currently wielding, but their larger project is the one the party has advertised since they were children: stopping the government from any of the actions it has called “Marxist” or “socialist,” burning it all down to make white Americans free.

Destruction doesn’t take skill at governance; it only requires obstruction. The 20 are good at that.

First on CNN: McCarthy proposes key concessions after House adjourns for second day without electing a speaker

After suffering yet another stinging defeat on Wednesday, in which he lost a sixth round of voting for House speaker, Kevin McCarthy proposed more key concessions in his push to get 218 votes – including agreeing to propose a rules change that would allow just one member to call for a vote to oust a sitting speaker, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

The major concession comes as McCarthy is struggling to find a path forward with the House adjourned until 12 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Elissa Slotkin has a proven record of winning in Michigan and carrying a Trump-friendly district.  Pete, not so much.

I like her and would be fine with her being the candidate, but that she can hold a tough district is a reason she might be encouraged to stay.

Funnily enough, the open rules that the crazies want would heavily empower House Democrats as well and make it much more likely that a clean debt ceiling passes. The wouldn't need to wait for McCarthy/GOP Speaker to bring anything to the floor or need procedural votes (like discharge petitions) that never work. They could just propose an amendment on any random, unobjectionable bill (like naming a post office) and it'd probably pass thanks to the dozen or so House Republicans that don't want to play games with the debt ceiling.

It would also mean that House Democrats could force swing district House Republicans to take tough votes, like on protecting abortion access.
