Rice, Rice, baby.

Arsenal make Declan Rice top summer target and optimistic of landing him

Quote

Arsenal will look to sign Declan Rice in the summer and are optimistic about beating rivals, Chelsea chief among them, to the West Ham and England midfielder’s signature.

Rice is Mikel Arteta’s top target and could become Arsenal’s record signing, beating the £72m paid for Nicolas Pépé, if a deal goes through. The player is understood to be open to the potential move.

Rice and Patino?

You can be sure that Chelsea will be in for Rice as well - they've been after him for a while now but West Ham's price tag scared away any suitors. Maybe United too, although our interest seems to have cooled since Solskjaer was sacked. Liverpool might be in for him too if they can't get Bellingham.

talk about a consolation prize.  Whoever gets him is going to be paying a shit ton of money more than he is worth.

Yeah I don't get why any of those teams would want Rice specifically. He'll do the job they expect him to, sure, but Newcastle and Brighton have proved you can find players to do it for way less than he'll command.

People call him a Rolls-Royce player. He's not, he's like a really high-level Merc, maybe even a Maserati, you'd take one happily, but Rolls-Royce money? Nah.

Worth having a backup option if Bellingham is your primary target since there's going to be serious competition for him - there's been reports that Real Madrid and Man City are going to be in for him as well. Then there's the home grown quota to consider as well - Liverpool are maxed out on non home grown players and Keita and Ox's contracts are up at the end of the season (haven't seen any reports about renewals), so Liverpool will need one of their midfield signings to be home grown.

West Ham might soften their stance since Rice's contract expires in 2024 (the club has an option to extend by a further year) and Rice has made it quite clear that he's not renewing with them.

The turnover of tricky pacy forwards at Aston Villa in the last few seasons has been ridiculous, and here's another. Any good, MLS fans?

Wouldn't describe him as a ''tricky" forward. More a traditional number 9, powerful and strong. But obviously far from the finished article.

We need to remake our midfield and Rice would fit well. Xhaka and Partey are both coming up on 30 and our only other midfielder in those spots is Lokonga and Elneny. I mean, would be happy for cheaper options but not sure we have any real targets.

Meanwhile in the Bundesliga:

Bayern's quest for an emergency GK has apparently reached an end.

Gladbach have reportedly reached an agreement with Omlin (Montpellier). That in turn allow Sommer to join Bayern.

Medical is supposedly happening today.

So Livakovic is just going to remain at Dinamo Zagreb? That would be a real bummer.
