And, please, tell me about all the thousand-year-old rituals and archaic ceremonies that bind your communities together whilst draining millions and millions from the public purse.

I'm all fucking ears.

If there is no monarch, are you going to quit doing trooping the color?  Are you going to let Buckinham Palace, Windsor Castle fall into ruin and stop maintaining them? Sell them off to oligarchs?  True, you would save $$ on the RF security and their staffs, is it really that much?

When the monarchy is de coupled from the government, what will you feel you gained?  The Windors will still be rich aristocrats, and it will be really, really complicated to legally determine who gets what between the Windsors and the state.

Will it though? The law already distinguishes between the King's personal assets and the Crown.  The Crown estate can just revert to the public fisc.  After all, the source of the Crown's wealth was ultimately its subjects.  The Windsors will still be rich aristocrats with a net worth of hundreds of millions.  Maybe give back the Koh-i-noor to India?

Maybe that's the way to win a referendum campaign.  Abolish the monarchy.  $25 million a month extra for the NHS.

ZOMG, not the Trooping of the Colour. What on earth will us plebs do if they cancelled the Trooping of the Colour? I mean, Brexit was bad enough, but I honestly don't think the nation would survive such a tumultuous event. So let's just stop all this talk of republicanism right now.

Phew, that was close.

Show me you know absolutely fucking nothing about the British People without saying you know absolutely fucking nothing about the British People.

The Trooping of the Colour. GTFOH.

The government could give back the Koh-i-noor right now if they wanted, because the Windsors don't own it, the crown does.  Maybe it wouldn't be that difficult.  I would think a case could be made that they would get some kind of pay-off for giving up all the art and furnishings and whether or how many of the family jewels and art are family v. crown.  If Queen Mary bought XY tiara, is that family or crown?  Do the Windsors get paid back for the cost of renovating Windsor Castle in the 90s?

I think everyone would be happier if the entire Royal Family just moved to the USA.

They can call their banners and lay siege to Castle Kardashian.

I thought the monarchy was supported by about 65% of Brits?  Maybe I'm wrong about that.

I would imagine that it will end probably in my lifetime, but I would suggest that it may not bring you the pleasure or the money savings you expect.

One could get a very distorted view of the popularity of the British monarchy if one thought this forum was representative of public opinion in the UK.

I have no doubt that the institution will outlive me.
