So a second season is happening?

So the Love wasn’t enough. We have to press on to the Hate.

The anti-woke crowd is already going to start turning on the show with Sunday's episode, more than likely.

Another well done, sad episode.

For the gamers out there, were Bill and Frank developed at all in the game? I assume if the show and game match on Joel & Ellie's arrival, then you only learn about Bill and Frank through fragments.

I'm assuming Frank had ALS.

No Frank was dead, Bills alive. Joel has no idea who frank is. Frank ran off and got infected then hung himself.

It was a nice love story, but it sort of ruined my favorite section of the video game. Joel and Ellie having to avoid all of Bill's traps, was so much fun in the game. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this one.

I mean not really. Bill's alive in the video game when Joel and Ellie come to town. He calls Frank his former partner and that's pretty much it. Honestly if they were a gay couple, I'd think they'd have given us more than that, considering how they handle Ellie in the first games DLC and the sequel video game. Franks body is found towards the end of the level and he writes a note, in his own blood to Bill, telling him that he hated him. It was really dark, but the level itself was very fun.

It's implied in the game that they were a couple. Bill's talk to Joel in the armory, the notes left behind, Bill's catalogue of umm.... books.... lol. Yeah, I always thought they were a couple from my first playthough, they just never showed any of it. It was more, let us show you dialogue, and you come to your own conclusions. Tonight's ep bummed me out cause they completely obliterated everything about this part of the game.  Ellie and Bill's back and forth was so damn good. And there were so many classic fights.

Still a good ep, just didn't think it was as good as I was hearing it would be from critics. Heard on multiple podcasts, 'wait till ep 3, oh my god ep 3...'

Yeah, my impression from the game was definitely that Bill and Frank were a couple.

I thought the episode was good.  Definitely way different from the game.  But I don't think they skipped anything super important.

I might have wanted to see Joel, Ellie, and Bill together.  Was looking forward to one scene in particular.  But I liked this too.

For what its worth, my wife - who knows nothing about the game aside from random things I've told her - thought it was great.  Anecdotal, but guessing there may be different reactions from people who went into this episode with certain expectations vs. those who didn't.

Eh...the game came out a decade ago, and the Ellie stuff wasn't added until they already knew it was a huge hit.  And gamers in general aren't exactly the most accepting demographic when it comes to gay relationships.  Or really anything that isn't a straight white dude saving the day.

Another really good episode. I very much enjoyed the story of Bill and Frank. I like these kind of side stories with ancillary characters. It reminds me of The Leftovers.

The character transformation of Bill over 2 decades was well done. I'm glad that the show focuses on the humanizing moments within the apocalypse, instead of the full bore slaughter porn that this genre usually provides.

I also really liked the letter at the end. Bill and Joel are two people who try to distance themselves from the world, but Bill allowed himself to love and find value in the world. Joel isn't at that place, and the mention of Tess drives that home. But the events around him continue to tug him in that direction, of getting through all these emotional walls Joel has erected for himself.

Anyway, so far I think this show has been consistently good, and I'm excited to see what happens next.

Pedro's accent seems to be a little...uneven? It might just be me though

It seems spot on for his character to me. Both the brothers passed quite easily for Texan tradesman to me. That is to say they both sounded similar to people ive worked with from that area (in both accent and cadence).

Pascal and Bella are both so great.

That was an excellent and unexpected episode. It was like a movie within the structure of the show. Beautiful performances from Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett.

Only false note for me is that I don't buy the raiders would all have just run like lemmings into the fire/fence to be killed -- some would have retreated, and some would have remembered this place and come back to it when they had more numbers.

Otherwise, though, great episode. Makes one wonder how many more groups are out there like this, places where people have managed to carve out a bit of safety and self-sufficiency away from FEDRA and the Fireflies. Are there any paleodiet communes that would have avoided getting infected?

(Did anyone make out the rest of the letter after Tess? I something about "pairing", which I wonder was Bill telling Joel that if Tess and Joel pair up that they could stay there together.)

Man, that was really fucking good. Have to admit i teared up like 3 times. This show continues to have just absolutely outstanding production design. Was a beautiful episode to look at.

Yep, got dusty in the room a few times for Linda and I.

Also, thanks to a screenshot from Relic, I think the "pairing" in the letter had to do with a wine, there's an Italian-looking word soon after, right at the end.

Well, im glad they didnt go that route in the show. The final shot from the open bedroom window...

That last shot was close to the games main menu screen right? This version of Bill and Frank really adds a bunch to that image.

The bit that got me earlier in the episode than I was expecting tears was when they first started kissing and the sharp pain of how intensely lonely they both were was so palpable. Huge credit to both actors and everyone else involved in making that so clear in what would normally be an every day shot with a very different tone (ie two people kissing).

Murray Bartlett should be in more stuff.

Yeah, definitely. He was the best part of The White Lotus season 1 and Welcome to Chippendales. Great casting, and Offerman is no slouch either.

FEDRA looks like it takes utilitarianism to extremes, killing people there isn't space for. Also, Bill and Frank both called them Nazis.
