Can't complain, though, we've gotten a superstar this window. None other than Sean Dyche, ladies and gentlemen! You might still get Ayew, apparently. BigFatCoward
I don't know why people spend huge huge fees on players, both the recent British transfer fee record, and the highest transfer fee's of all time list are littered with complete failures. Spending 10x what someone was worth 6 months ago is madness, and historically buying someone on the back of a good world cup rarely works out either. I don't mind buying talented players but I agree with intense value accretion based on limited sample sizes being a big issue. And Chelsea are locking these players up for 9 year contracts. If these guys don't work out, they're in for a world of pain. Think that's why I'm happy with Arsenal's window. They spent very little money to upgrade and sort out some areas of depth in their side and that should help them this year while not hurting them this summer. Also there should be zero world where a team can spend 600m in 6 months and that still be ok. A Horse Named Stranger
Well, on the other Everton sold one of their players for inflated value to Newcastle, and didn't overpay themselves for any signings. So good window for them, I guess. Let's see whether Dyche can sort it out. If Dyche manages to get this squad to perform adequately, that should very much be the end of the managerial career for Lampard. Spoiler And the beginning of his career as a pundit. Rorshach
It's a strange world, really. Squad isn't too far removed from the one challenging for European spots under Ancelotti. So if anything the last few years have underscored that Ancelotti remains a good manager, while Benitez is now a has-been and Lampard seems a never-were. Wilbur
Jose Mourinho having his team take a group picture after a loss is both excellent humor and totally on-brand for The Special One. 10/10 - look at some of those fizzes! Spockydog

As someone I know pointed out, this season we've seen 90mil dropped on Antony, 105mil on Mudryk, 35 on Gakpo, and the best new wide forward is Mitoma, who cost 2.5mil and spent last season in Belgium. (eta: and, of course, Napoli are going to win the league in part because of Kvaratskhelia, who cost 12mil euros). The Mudryk fee is particularly wild because the Ukraine league just isn't high-level enough to be able to judge anything solidly about his fitness for the kind of level he needs to be from his form in it, especially since he only really became a first-teamer this season as far ass I can tell. So Chelsea are desperately hoping his slick moves in a handful of CL games come with the kind of fitness, temperament, and team play you'd want from that kind of player. polishgenius
I'd thought for a while that Sancho might be as well or better suited to central roles than wide, but I didn't expect ETH to bring him on with Rashford and Martial in his first appearance back... then shunt Bruno wide to play Sancho in the middle. Consigliere
France are overloaded with CBs - Kimpembe, Pavard, Hernandez, Upamecano, Saliba, Konate, Fofana, Kounde, Badiashile, Kalulu and Disasi. I see that Sampdoria are in serious financial trouble. Apparently they have failed to pay their players and staff for the last quarter in 2022. They are in need of €11m to meet their wage obligations as well as require a cash injection of €35-50m which their owners, who have been trying to sell the club, are apparently not going to provide. They have until Feb. 16th to meet their payroll obligations or face a points deduction. The club looks doomed for relegation anyway which isn't going to help their financial situation. Bad news for Everton. I see that Forest (aka. the budget Chelsea) are about to snap up Andre Ayew. Edited February 2 by Consigliere
