Whether they can get a conviction...that's a lot more up in the air. Perhaps this prediction wasn't so laughable after all, eh @Mindwalker@Secretary of Eumenes? ljkeane
So what’s actually illegal about him paying someone off to cover up an affair? I’m pretty confident that Trump’s done lots of illegal stuff but that seems like a fairly standard rich people way of dealing with an embarrassing situation. What's illegal is reporting it as not paying that person off on an official financial document, and then using campaign funding to do so. The actual paying off someone is totally legal. But you can't lie about it on official disclosure forms, and you can't use campaign funds to do so.

WE don't know the actual charges yet, but from what we've gathered it is for illegal campaign spending. Cohen paid her off a week or two before the election, and then was reimbursed by the Trump campaign, but they did not report that correctly. EDIT: However, there is likely more than this because from what I understand of NY state law, that would only be a misdemeanor. However, it becomes a felony when accompanied with some other crime. There are several theories on what crime that is, most likely it is something financial. Edited March 30 by Maithanet

Fez
I'm all for Trump getting charged for all the crimes he's committed. But I feel like this is pretty weak sauce and hope that the Georgia and potentially federal indictments come soon. This is pretty much the exact thing John Edwards was charged with, and he was found not guilty on one count and had a hung jury on the other charges (and the case wasn't re-tried). If Trump is found not guilty of something that'll have enormous blowback I fear. No, as you can see the many media stars said it wasn't going to happen in April, which is what I posted. The grand jury decided the evidence was there to charge him, and I'm not going to second-guess them.

I never cared whether or not he's indicted for his whore payments I want him to hang from the neck until he's dead for the murder of Brian Sicknick, Ashli Babbitt, Kevin Greeson, Rosanne Boyland, and Benjamin Philips - All of whom were victims of his malicious and explicit campaign to end American democracy Enjoy your twitter trial Darzin
Tywin et al.
The results of this indictment don’t really matter unless there are other crimes. Hopefully what it will do is make the other cases he’s facing become more likely to go to trial. LongRider and Mindwalker
Mindwalker
There's some murmurs about him getting off on a technicality, depending on how the various indictments are combined. No clue what that means, I'm not on twitter.

This is only one step along the path toward seeing Trump in prison. It is still probably not likely that he'll see meaningful prison time even now, but it is at least a real possibility, and more possible today than yesterday.
