This is exactly what I mean, like. The lead of thus universe was Tony Stark. He's not humble at all and his relationship with most of the characters is far more spiky and antagonistic, early on, than Carol's. If someone is arguing that she's got the wrong kind of charisma for the role or that her movie isn't particularly well written, fine. But when the argument is 'she should have been nicer' it's absolutely a double standard.

Iron Man one opens up with Tony being cocky for 10 minutes and then tortured in a cave for a half hour, have his life saved by the someone putting a magnet next to his heart and having his only friend killed helping him escape. He's very much humbled by the second half of the film. In many ways, he reminds me of what happened to Jamie in ASoS, only he manages to save his friend.

Iron Man 2 has Tony literally dying from the only thing that's keeping him alive and being terrified of that fact.

Iron Man 3 has Tony suffering from PTSD

They give him many humbling moments.

The reason Tony stark is an interesting character is because he has flaws, and those flaws are also the reason why he succeeds and fails.

Plus it’s not a matter of ‘being nicer’, Tony has a self deprecating sense of irony and his arrogance is balanced with his charm. If you take away the charm and the lack of self awareness, yeah you just end up with an unlikable character..

Credit where credit due, Downey slams a home run with his performance.

Remember the days when Tom Cruise was almost cast as Iron Man? Can we all agree that at least in this instance, we lucked out? (I just cannot handle the idea of Cruise as Iron Man, I don't think he could do as much with the material as RDJ ultimately ended up doing.)
