Have you watched much League 2..?

Of course not. Do you not realize it's only a recent thing to get the top leagues over here? Getting La Liga in English is fairly new.

if I was a chairman, I'd just wait and see who Brighton were trying to buy and swoop in with a better offer.  Their recruitment has been insane for a few years.

Or you could just do what Newcastle did and poach their director of football.

Apparently their next big signing will be young James Milner. With Edwards gone and our recruitment team apparently in disarray I’ve lost confidence we’re not the ones being made to look like mugs here. Maybe we should just offer Milner a big contract?

Who'd have thought that Woy's Palace v Moyes' West Ham would turn out to be one of the games of the season.

Palace are probably safe now. And I have to take it back about Woy. I thought he was a terrible appointment to follow Vieira. Pleased for him.

Your comments consistently make me believe Green Street Hooligans is still everyday life in England.

More a thing of Bale getting lumps getting kicked out of him. Pretty much any defender would've wanted a piece of Hollywood Bale.

Yeah, wasn't quite sure why he mentioned that movie. Although that culture is definitely on the rise again.

Because it speaks to the culture. Former star basketball players don't get that kind of treatment when they play in lower divisions, mostly overseas. Personally I'd assume him joining the team would be good for the whole league, but if that natural assumption is some scrubs are going to rough him up, shouldn't we be rethinking this a bit?

Also, double post, but I never thought I'd see the day when portions of our fanbase would literally be begging to be a sportwashing project. Not that Ratcliffe is clean either, since no billionaires are, but man please.

I am not the least bit surprised by that. You saw how the Geordies celebrated their sell out. So why did you expect your fanbase would be better.

I cringe so much when I see Liverpool fans on social media angrily complaining that club owners somehow owe them hundreds of million of pounds in transfer signings.  This weird mix of entitlement and arrested development, self-identity-tied-up-in-a-sports-team is pretty commonplace but it makes me distance myself from sports fandom.

Yeah, it's hardly surprising really. I said before that if Qatar is successful then a good chunk of the United fanbase (perhaps even a majority) would be celebrating (secretly or not so secretly). Although I still think that Joel and Avram would much rather accept minority investment from a hedge fund so they can retain control; it's the other siblings who want to cash out.

I generally don't like the over the top FSG out stuff or expectation that we're going to be able match the state funded clubs in their spending either, largely because FSG have done a pretty good job of running the club within reasonable limits. Having said that most club owners are billionaires exploiting the fans loyalty to what should be community assets, their utility to the fans is to fund success. Beyond that fuck 'em. Owners who have some deeper connection to their club I'm willing to give a bit more leeway.

In important football news, Bryne FK (home club of Erling!) has had a quite ok start to the season!

Won our first match, lost the second, and after that we've drawn against two of the promotion-tipped clubs - first at home and then away. In both matches, we had to come back after going behind. Seems this season will be ok.

Fulham putting up a surprising amount of resistance to City after going behind early but that’s a great goal from Alvarez to break the deadlock. He looks a very good plywood when he gets the chance to play.

ETA: Plywood? Heh.
