What grinds your gears?

Omg, if I see ONE MORE person sitting next to me in a bar on a FaceTime conversation I will freaking snap. WHY is it that people think that speaker phone or FaceTime is appropriate in a public setting??

What is the thing that most grinds your gears?

I always keep my phone on silent unless I'm expecting a work call back.  And if I do need to take a call I move away from the group I'm in.  Basic courtesy.

It grinds my gears when I have to hear only one half of a banal conversation on someone's cell phone.

Good to see you back.

What really grinds my gears? Having to sign in with an email and password I've forgotten in order to apply a stupid update

Well it is a three day weekend.

Grading papers on a Saturday of a two-day weekend while others are out enjoying a three-day weekend

People who walk in the center of a staircase, sidewalk, or escalator leaving no room for others to pass them

People who smoke in an area where no smoking signs are clearly posted

People who litter

I mentioned this in another thread: people who don't don't put groceries they don't want back where they belong. And people who make clothing stores look like a tornado hit.

True enough, yet one thing that really oils my gears is how so many indoor spaces are smoke-free these days. Coming home from a concert, or a drink, or dinner and not smelling like shit is a very nice thing.

I get bothered by people who lack spatial awareness. It sounds minor, but it impacts so much of your life.

Speaking as someone who lacks spatial awareness by reasons of dyspraxia and dyslexia, my gears are ground by people who may or may not have it but do nothing to alieviate it. Like, I have to work fucking hard to avoid being in people's way all the time- it infuriates me to see people not even bothering to try.

Supermarket aisles are a particular rage-inducer.

People having conversations in doorways where they should know not to can go fuck themselves.

As of this morning, couples that walk side-by-side into a busy grocery store, only to stop with their cart immediately past the entrance, blocking everyone else attempting to get in. Second place goes to the three random other people behind them who stood like idiots in the cart area, waiting, without saying a word. Third place to the one who looked askance back at me, 15 feet back, for saying "Excuse us!" loud enough for all 5 people to turn around and finally scatter for traffic.

I enjoy the slower pace being back in the Midwest, but damn do these people need to live in a city to learn to get outta the way.

Spoiler

Lol. I was the guy in HS, being a running back, who enjoyed walking really hardly into the group that was blocking the hall.

And while I'm a bit more mature these days, I'll still tell someone fuck off for doing this basic ass shit. It's stunning how inconsiderate people can be.

Aaaah, I now see where this is coming from.

I was wondering why anyone would care that I can’t play volleyball (it freaks me out), or can’t fly an airplane (couldn’t pass the vision test).

If I'm the first person getting off the train and there's someone getting on who tries to stand in the middle of the door instead of to the side as it opens, I will make it clear that I'm just gonna step directly forwards. Haven't had anyone not step out of the way yet, to be fair. I don't understand it at all, though- being at the side is way faster to get on.

Also if in a crowded area I stand aside to let someone from the opposite direction through, and someone from behind me cuts in front instead, I am absolutely petty enough to catch up to them, overtake, and slow right down in their way. Especially if the person I was letting through was elderly, had a kid/pushchair, or anything of that sort. Like fuck you.

Probably not their choice but HR etc. have mandated it so that people know they are 'with' the hospital and / or practice.

Scrubs can also be bought at the thrift shops and are cheap there.  Affordable clothing, yanno?

Back when it first came out, I used my hardcover copy of A Dance With Dragons on multiple occasions to encourage people to not block subway doors as I was getting out.

Cyclists going 20-30mph in the wrong direction in cycle lanes. Twats.

Well, I witnessed one doing that get creamed and taken away in an ambulance, unconscious and barely breathing -- oxygen mask -- she rode right into a car going the wrong way into an intersection against the light.  less than two weeks ago.  She's likely not gonna do that again.  I felt sympathy for the driver of the car, who was so obviously not at fault here. O she was wasn't in the cycle lane either -- it was on the other side of the one way street on which she was speeding the wrong way.

Same goes for the people trying to immediately get on the elevator before letting people off. Wait five seconds FFS.

Also, people trying to get off a plane way too fast deserve an ass kicking.

Also, how something like this is allowed on our roads with no requirements for the rider to have a driver's license, tax, or insurance.

I mean, what in the actual fuck?
