So, after being told that I'd likely be contacted one way or another for a job, "in 3 to 4 days" and taking into account that July 4 was one of those days and it's now been a week...I can call to inquire, right? Only, I only have the recruiters number from a call with the company that was set up through the company's AI call system...I mean, if I'm already out on the job, this isn't going to make it worse, right...?

Option number 7, put on a giant foam hand and just go in and start slapping people.

Definitely fine to check in with the recruiter.  Just make sure you sound well organized rather than desperate or stalker-ish.  (Unfortunately this happens a lot)

Good luck

I’m feeling very energized by my new role.  The situation is a huge flaming, chaotic mess but that makes it a fun challenge.  I’m making some good progress already and talking some people off ledges.  I also have some really good people reaching out to ask if they can come work with me on this.

It’ll be a roller-coaster of progress and setbacks for the next several months.

Same here :) I don’t have 30 suicidal people, though. My challenges are “omg, they filed WHAT? Did counsel not review this??”

Pretty sure we are going to need a 10-K/A, but that’s up to counsel to opine on my question, so we shall see.

I got some validation last night from one of the people with whom I worked tangentially (he was in IT). He told me that the current CEO was quoted as saying “she is brilliant” which was super nice to hear. Apparently, it was NOT widely known or visible that the CFO was cutting me out of every meeting and narrowing my role to that of “financial printer”.

When I was in the job market, it was pretty much de riguer  to inquire about the job after a reasonable time had passed since the interview. Usually I'd frame it as something like "I greatly enjoyed my trip to [location] and meeting all the people at [company X]. In particular, I liked [specific example] and [other specific example]. Please let me know if I can answer any further questions you may have." Usually that enough to let them know you're still interested in the position and are serious about it. If they reply, its kind of a gauge that you are still in the running.

I'd also specifically ask for some contact info during the interview itself (although what I described is common for academic or industrial R&D, so YMMV)

So not exactly fired and might be able to get a promotion, lol. It always helps to know how to charm people which is why it was so cutting in the dating thread when I posted that E said I have bad social skills.

Anyways, I doubt I'll ever return to the office, but it's clear my bosses still like me so that's a plus. I guess we'll see what happens. I'll take a few days for myself then really hit it.

Very Office Space

Oh I'm not unfamiliar with the follow up. I've done it a couple times. I need to do it more, it seems. The general ghosting is the frustration.

My follow up with the recruiter was alright I guess. She did seem to recall me after I said who I was and where I was interviewing for. Said she'd follow up with the hiring manager, but silence this afternoon. I'll reach out again next week if need be.

I hate losing out on jobs that I'd be a fit for, but at least have the decency to send, at the very least, a form letter telling me I'm no longer in the running...

THE WORST are recruiters who ghost. And companies who ghost. To your point, if you can’t call and say, “we enjoyed meeting you, but we are moving in a different direction,” then at least send a form rejection via e-mail or snail mail.

Funny how this overlaps with dating. If you can't call someone to break up at least text them. Ghosting is the worst way to make someone feel and says more about the other party than yourself. I'd like to think with work someone would be more comfortable telling you thanks, but it's not gonna happen, but nope. The truth is most people are cowards.

I’m practicing for retirement! Sort of. Work are allowing a mini sabbat after 10 years. 2 weeks annual leave followed by 10 weeks off at half pay, which given marginal tax rates, but allowing for continuous AVCs means I’ll clear maybe 60% net pay.

Currently finishing the 2 weeks annual leave, which we spent in Portugal. Back home tomorrow.

I’ve nothing planned other than bringing the kids to all those 10am-2pm camps that they’ve never been able to do.

I’d like to loose 3-6 kilos and maybe start a gym habit. As part of that I’d like to get out of my cooking rut and try more recipes. Want to read. Have a goal to fill a mini skip with junk. But that’s it.

there is no joy (once you are at a certain age) like the joy you get from getting rid of a load of shit you don't need, even better if you can get someone to take it off your hands so you don't feel guilty about landfill.

My mum's garden shed had been gradually filling up with crap over the years. It got so bad there was barely enough room to get the lawn mower in and out.

Two weeks ago, I got a Hippo Bag (which are friggin' great, btw), and me and my sister spent the afternoon emptying the shed and filling up the Hippo Bag with crap.

I don't think I've ever felt such satisfaction upon completion of a task.
