Football: The summer of selling (out)

Eberl claims they (City and RedBull) are actually far away from an agreement (huge gap apparently between what they ask and what City is offering right now).

Make of that what you will.

Yeah, its been pretty bad.

Nice goal though.

Indeed. Nothing malicious, but a lot of sloppy play that's left our players on the ground that's just not getting called for whatever reason. And like I say in every sports thread, if the refs don't call the obvious shit players will think they can just keep doing it.

Guess Madrid will get Mbappe?

I hope they just let him rot in the reserves for a year. Then both shitty club and arsehole player lose out.

Next year, probably. PSG are getting desperate and trying to force him out for a fee now, but Real would need to have like Boehlyx10 levels of incompetence to spend £200m on him.

Mbappe is very unlikely to leave now. It appears that the reason he doesn't want to leave in this window is that, according to some reports, he's due a loyalty bonus of €90m if he sees out his contract.

PSG are trying to play hardball but I don't see Mbappe getting benched for the whole season. One bad result and the fans will be rioting for Mbappe to be brought back into the fold.

Probably, but the issue is the non competitiveness of Ligue 1. So PSG should win it, Mbappe or not.

More interesting element in this is, we're entering a tournament year with the Euros at the end of the season. So there's some minor question mark, how this will influence things. Probably not that much, as Mbappe will probably getting called up no matter what. But if it did actually impact his Euro prospects, he might be willing to entertain a transfer afterall.

But no, I don't think Real will fork over 200m for a player in his final year, who is very likely to join them next season on a free, despite Benzema's exit leaving sorta (Mbappe shaped) hole upfront.

PSG only won the league by one point last season and of course lost out to Lille recently as well. Yeah, they should still win the league but its not been all plain sailing for them. Hamstringing your new manager by forbidding him from selecting the club's best player might cause friction as well, not to mention the possible backlash of a French club freezing out French football's golden boy for the 'crime' of simply fulfilling the contract that was agreed to.

Agreed that Real are very unlikely to splash out a massive transfer fee on a player who will probably join them on a free transfer next season anyway. Also Mbappe's wages will be huge and he'd likely command a substantial signing bonus as well. Mbappe on a free transfer is still going to cost in the ballpark of €150m when signing bonus and agent commissions are taken into account.

England don’t look great. The defence looks very ropey with Williamson out and Bronze and Bright just back from injury. They also look a lot less comfortable in possession without Williamson and Kirby, so long as the opposition doesn’t give Walsh time on the ball they look pretty clunky.

It’s a shame after they’ve been so good over the last couple of years that they look as bad as they have under Wiegman going into the World Cup but I think they’re going to struggle in the latter stages.
