Yea, Star Trek writing got a lot smarter since the 60’s, lol

No it really hasn't.

Regardless I'm pretty sure that captain role existed because Filoni probably likes the film Aliens.

There's a captain role in Aliens?

Also why is the captain himself doing the arrest? In Star Trek that would be the chief of securities job; Worf, Odo, Tuvok and so on. In the SW’s universe do captains also serve as chief of security; if so that seems like very poor management, lol

To be fair, this is made clear: he wants to meet what he thinks are jokers with the front to pretend to be Jedi.

He didn’t have overkill for actual Jedi.  Plan for the worst, remember?

It didn't enter his mind that they could actually be Jedi. Look, I'm not defending his actions, he was an idiot, I just don't think the show deserves this criticism considering how much incompetency we've seen in Star Wars before.

What is more interesting Keystone Cops levels of competency from “New Republic” and “Imperial” characters… or… competent choices and actions from Imperials and those who oppose them?

Seriously?

When you have to explain… in canon… why the elite soldiers of the Empire are really crappy shots it’s rather sad.

Yup. A galactic empire brought low by improperly fitting headgear and eye openings that are 10% too small.

the actor is private drake

I know!

I'm pretty sure the Sulaco was automated. There didn't appear to be an operations crew on board.

I just wanted to say thank you for lowering my expectations. I finally got around to watching the first episode and I actually enjoyed it. Yes, the dialog took too long to deliver. Yes, it was stilted (but this is Star Wars we're watching here).

Maybe rewatching the Ashoka related episodes of Rebels helped. Sabine was pretty much the puzzle solver there too. Makes sense to recruit her to figure out the map (yes, it was obvious to me too).

As an aside, it's really cool to see two more of the voice actors transition to the live action version of their characters. I knew Lars was reprising his role as Thrawn, but I somehow missed Clancy Brown was even Ryder in the first place.

And while still only voicing the character, David Tennant reprised his role as the droid Huyang.

Finally got around to watching the second episode and found it better somehow (better paced maybe?), though I'd lowered my expectations a lot after the first episode, and I'd just finished another show whose plot was somehow much worse.

I'm still on the fence about it. Honestly, I was hoping for something much better... This feels close to The Mandalorian on many levels : a paper-thin plot with no depth whatsoever as an excuse to see the main character(s) kick ass. I guess I'm foolish to hope for anything else than basic entertainment in a SW show - Andor was a fluke after all.
What bothers me is that it doesn't seem all that well-made for what I believe is a big budget show. The CGI is good and the fights are ok, but I find the costumes and makeup not entirely convincing - Hera is a disaster for me, she's so obviously a woman with green paint on her face. Acting is average imho, everyone seems to have something up their ass.

Will probably try to watch this, but I'm in no hurry. Seems like a good show to watch while I'm doing something else.

Just watched the third episode… I didn’t think Force sensitivity could be “learned”?  That was lots of pew pew with very little plot development.

More New Republic incompetence… it’s like they forget how the Empire came to power…

Seeing that they're constrained by the canon of the sequels that say the New Republic must be a dismal failure...thanks, JJ...

Wasn’t the new republic eventually disbanded due to incompetence and war in the original EU anyways and reorganised into the galactic alliance or something? They’ll probably do the same thing in the new Ridley movie. Jacen Solo was basically Kylo Ren and aspects of Jaina were in Rey so in a way Disney is kinda faithful to the original continuity lol.

This ep was fine. It was entertaining, and I liked ahsoka and Sabine together. The senate scene with hera was another horribly wooden painful acting style of course. I also just don't buy the villains so far as threats go.

I actually liked episode 3, the chase sequels was rather exciting. Ahsoka, Sabine and the David Tennant Droid, are starting to grow on me. All of their scenes felt like a massive improvement over the first two episodes.

The Hera scene is the only part I didn't like. The dialogue felt very slow, like in the first two episodes, with long pauses in between lines. So the New Republic is being run by idiots; thanks again J.J., lol

It feels like two different people directed this episode, one for the Hera scene and the other for the rest of the episode. It felt strange, but the majority of the episode was directed by the one I liked.
