Now, you may want a good source on this, because it's so insane, so I'm quoting and linking to the speech direct:

https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/minister-jenricks-statement-on-illegal-migration#:~:text=Those lawyers found to be,immigration offenders on weekly flights

Quote

Last month we announced the Professional Enablers Taskforce, which will increase enforcement action against those lawyers and legal representatives, who help migrants abuse the immigration system.

Those lawyers found to be coaching migrants on how to remain in the country by fraudulent means will face a sentence of up to life imprisonment.

Life imprisonment. For giving dodgy immigration advice.

You can commit literally any amount of burglaries (provided you don't go armed) and never get a life sentence. You can defraud a pension fund of any amount of money and never get a life sentence. You can launder money for a drug smuggler for decades and never get a life sentence. I could go on.

Yes, I understand that it's unlikely that this would ever be a default or even common sentence for this proposed offence. But the idea that this government is willing to stand up in Parliament and declare something that is, at worst, professional malpractice to be a crime equivalent to the most serious offences on the books - murder, armed robbery, rape, kidnapping - is fucking nuts.

A new low, even by the breathtaking standards of this absolute clown show of a government.

That's putting it mildly. The mere fact of threatening people who help migrants get in the UK with life imprisonment, at a time when it is well-known that immigration will keep increasing, is borderline dystopian. I am not sure nationalist policies went this far in the past tbh, at least not in what we consider democracies.
It seems many Western countries are struggling with the temptation to close their borders tight and turn themselves into fortresses.

I love how this party is back for one day and completely shat the bed again

Yeah. I was thinking for a while that maybe the Tories were calming down and focusing on the next election.

Then I realised that no, they'd just been away on holiday.

Like almost everything the Tories are doing on immigration it's all about bark and no bite. A load of aggressive, angry policies that look draconian and reactionary to show that they are doing something about immigration, when in reality they don't have a grip on it at all. Constant talk of illegal immigration, 'boat week' etc is really just a cover for the fact that they've overseen record levels of immigration, and this is post Brexit. They seem to be under the impression the public are fine about legal immigration levels, but they aren't, they expected numbers to come down, not up.

Blaming immigration lawyers, Rwanda and all that shit is all for show, and everyone can see it. They don't have a handle on the problem at all. They don't really know what to do.

It also highlights a problem with the political system and politician class, because this is also about demonstrating that you aren't Labour. The Tories are so fucked politically that this is their only resort.

In a moment of stating the obvious, former Bank of England chief economists admits that they printed too much money during Covid, they let it go on too long and then were forced to put the brakes on much harder than they needed to. It's amazing that more isn't made of this, it's one of the major causes of the shit we are in now and it's basically overlooked by most people

Do immigration lawyers think this is "all for show" ?

Because it's not at all clear "printing money" is the main reason for inflation in the UK. That's a right-wing interpretation that's highly in doubt.

You'd agree it is a major cause though right?

The money supply increased dramatically because of the 2008 asset freeze, when many banks who kept their assets in commercial paper were unable to liquidate those assets and were then in danger of collapsing.  Who thought 15 years later it would cause inflation?
