Captures the issue perfectly. Students, cool with it. Parents, not so much. That's the real problem.

I don’t think this framing is true or helpful.
Some parents are advent culture warriors who’d endanger the lives of a minor even children because they hate trans people. Some aren’t.

Some young people are militant fascists—like much of the younger crowd in Republican Party I’d argue are worse than their parents.

Libs of tictok is only interested in a pair of parents who fit the former. If she couldn’t find a parent willing to help in provoking a mob to torment the trans girl and usher bomb threats to a school, she’d interview a teacher, failing that she’d find person who used to work at the school, failing that, she’d interview a former prom-queen.

The reactionary right’s appeal to parental rights in regards to trans issues is merely rhetoric to get liberals unwilling to call them demons(which they tend to be). They don’t want parents any option to let their kid medically or even socially transition in any context. It’s like when they use their mantra for state’s rights—they’ll only continue until they could enact their evil nationally.

There's a funny pic of him in a dress wearing both crowns sitting on the back of a convertible driving down the parade route. We always joked with him that he looked and sounded like Chris Tucker, especially in his role in The Fifth Element. Almost nobody cared he was gay except for some shitheel parents.

Yeah things like that are much more likely to cause moral panic these days because more people would take it is as an example of him being groomed especially if he’s gay and all crazies can post their craziness on social media.

I just recently watched a Video-essay about an old Disney sitcom where a two little  boys dress up like a girl to enter a beauty pageant. They even almost win.

If Disney actually did something like that today someone would probably be killed.

The top turn off was being a MAGA Republican. Which is wise

The reaction from some people(mainly on the right, mainly men,) is a bit annoying with howls that political differences shouldn’t matter in terms of deciding to pursue a romantic relationship.
Politics should be to a litmus test for having a deeper bond than friendship to some degree. Imagine shacking up with someone who believes in constricting one’s ability to divorce their spouse. If the relationship turns sour odds are your stuck being married to someone who’d leverage the state to keep you tittered to them.

76% of the Mil/Z women polled find men who identify with MAGA as a redflag/turnoff...

It appears the ^Weaponized Justice Department^ is unsealing an indictment against Democratic US Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey on bribery and corruption charges.

Sounds like he needs to resign.

One would think if you dodged similar charges years ago that you'd make sure to not do the exact same thing again.

And yes, he should absolutely resign. Sounds like he needs to go to jail as well if he's guilty.

Gold bars and cash are the flashiest part of the indictment, but not the worst one.

Among other things, Menendez (allegedly) sent sensitive information about US embassy employees in Egypt to the Egyptian government (people who sent him that gold).

The guy who has done the most to harm Cuba and the Cubans.  They even have DNA evidence -- his wife and others are also charged.  He's up for re-election in '24, but no primary challenger has yet appeared, other than a small town GQP mayor. The article in the NYT says there will be Dem challengers but no names were included.

Now do Clarence Thomas and his wifey!

Can SCOTUS members be charged, or do they have to be dealt with by some judges’ organization, or do they have to be impeached by congress?

eta: ok, as I suspected, they have to be impeached.

US prison labor is cruel and pointless legalized slavery. I know first-hand
Dyjuan Tatro
I was paid 10 cents an hour to do menial work that taught no skills or life lessons. Without a college-in-prison degree, I’d probably be back in prison today

Quote

In New York, all state prisons were built upstate as economic stimuli in rural districts and failing farm communities. The facilities imprison predominantly Black and brown inner-city residents who toil under a class of white overseers. I remember a guard bending over to shackle me one day and saying, “I just want to thank you for being here because I’m too old to be digging ditches.” My body and my labor made him an easy living. The parallels to slavery are stark and visceral.

There’s a book called How the Word is Passed, by Clint Smith, describing the legacy of slavery in the US and how it continues to impact American society today. I had to borrow the audiobook several times in order to get through it, it’s difficult to absorb and imagine what went on and continues to go on. The author has a chapter on Louisiana State Prison, called Angola Prison because of the nearby small town. A prison full of black people who worked the prison farm for basically nothing and got rented out to other farms and businesses, also basically for nothing. Slavery basically continued alive and well.

Isn't that treasonous behavior?  Like, straight up Pollard- or the Rosenbergs-type of betraying the country?

A corrupt politician from New Jersey is just Tuesday night in the district, but surely betraying State Department officials is treason, right?

Angola Prison

The prisoner still work for nothing and are 'leased'.  We went there doing research.  The drive there is -- just what you would expect it to be like.  Tracker, killer dog kennels everywhere along the narrow road, dark, dense, damp, overgrown by the tree canopies.  No towns.  Small houses, with, of course, those kennels.

Just what we've seen over and over from too many Cubans born here, whose parents got EVERYTHING from the US gummit because you know, ASYLUM FROM COMMIES.  Corrupt just like Batista, whom Fidel overthrew. That's been their get out of jail free card forever -- howl communism!  And howl 'socialism' for good measure, that 'socialism' that gave them everything to get ahead, unlike any other immigrants, and howling 'racism' as Menendez is now.  I've even hade convos with Cuban musicians who went to the most socialized nation in Europe where they were able to live well, including constant medical care, howling about how evil socialism is.

The last cries of a desperate man.

Listening to more coverage it sounds like they've got the two dead to rights. What makes me laugh is they did this for what amounts to not much considering the consequences.

The next logical step from republicans rampant transphobia is here: republicans in iowa introduce amendment to ban gay marriage

Pretty soon we’re going to see a lot more people(I use this word liberally) give the ‘moderate’ position of states should just give same-sex couples civil unions and framing it is as a compromise like people(I use that word liberally again)  frame the least egregious looking attacks on trans rights and abortion rights as a compromise that progressives and leftists should take—don’t fall for it.
