The Long Night, Night King, and the Last Hero.

Recommended Posts

I’ve always ascribed to the idea/theory that the Night’s Watch was actually founded BEFORE the Wall was built, DURING the Long Night. They fought the Others for awhile, going through Lord Commanders, until eventually the Night’s King came. I believe, like most of you, the NK was a Stark, but I also think Bran the Breaker was the Last Hero and Joramun was one of his 13 companions. I also think it may be possible that the Kinslaying taboo stems from Bran slaying the NK, who was possibly his brother/son/uncle etc.

The span of time from the long night to the 13th commander is pretty long. The Brandon who allegedly built WF and the Wall lived centuries before the NK, who I believe was a Stark. Jon Snow is the reincarnation of the NK and Arya will be his corpse bride again.

Alright I refuse to acknowledge the last two sentences. I think the times we are given are like a game of telephone. Warped over the years.

Is it really a theory? The Night's Watch was made during the Long Night and fought the Others during t the battle of the Dawn:

How the Long Night came to an end is a matter of legend, as all such matters of the distant past have become. In the North, they tell of a last hero who sought out the intercession of the children of the forest, his companions abandoning him or dying one by one as they faced ravenous giants, cold servants, and the Others themselves. Alone he finally reached the children, despite the efforts of the white walkers, and all the tales agree this was a turning point. Thanks to the children, the first men of the Night's Watch banded together and were able to fight—and win—the Battle for the Dawn: the last battle that broke the endless winter and sent the Others fleeing to the icy north. Now, six thousand years later (or eight thousand as True History puts forward), the Wall made to defend the realms of men is still manned by the sworn brothers of the Night's Watch, and neither the Others nor the children have been seen in many centuries.

The music grew wilder, the drummers joined in, and Hother Umber brought forth a huge curved warhorn banded in silver. When the singer reached the part in "The Night That Ended" where the Night's Watch rode forth to meet the Others in the Battle for the Dawn, he blew a blast that set all the dogs to barking.

It would be pretty hard to built an enormous fortification like the Wall during a long winter that could have blizzards and dead people attacking. The Wall was mostly build after the Others were push back, probably during a long summer.
So I don't think the Night's King appeared during the Long Night either, it would be later once the Wall was built.

You don’t think the story could’ve been warped over millenia?
