Classic Thread Recommends?

Recommended Posts

What's a classic thread (not one of your own) that you think people should check out, and why?

I thought this might be a nice idea, seeing as this forum has such a huge back catalogue and many old posters are no longer active.

So, I found this old thread, begun by @Kingmonkey, that begins by imagining how the Dunk & Egg stories tie in thematically to the main series:

It basically shows how the Tower of Joy echoes throughout the story in versions great and small. Great thread all round, with lots to chew on.

This series of threads is an excellent read:

Skimming through Learning to Lead, we miss a lot of those posters.

A lot is made at the end of Dany choosing to be Dragon, rather than Mhysa, but to me, it’s a case of both/and, rather than either/or.  A good leader has to be both Mhysa and Dragon, on occasion.

Striving too hard for peace in Meereen, nearly led to disaster.  States don’t launch armadas, and bring thousands of soldiers onto your soil, because they want peace.  People rarely lay down the whip, unless they are compelled to.  And a “peace” that can only be secured by allowing people to be eaten by lions for the amusement of sadists, is a peace that is not worth having.

Some of the rereads by those posters are excellent and well worth reading.  They did some good work on those rereads.

  • 1 month later...

I remember around when I first joined I was arguing with some guy about the Others, and getting rid of the others (or something like it). It was a back and forth between me and some guy with a star in his pfp IIRC. Nice engaging argument.

I kind of liked my own Unsullied thread, but that's more because it was mine. Plus all the GRRM writing threads I made, but those got taken down. That was fun to read, and also hilarious because I was always praying it would get past twenty pages.

Jesus... I know who the shadows are in Mirri's tent now. Hahaha! This story is mental. They're going to pillory George by the end of it.

There's another set of parallels between the Robert and ToJ scene that the essay writer didn't have access to yet. I need to jot it down so I don't forget it.

That was a phenomenal essay. Groundbreaking. One to save. Thank you for the recommendation!

I just remembered this one.  This thread starts by comparing Jon and Theon's Winterfell dreams, and later expands to include Jamie's Weirwood stump dream.  Great thread.

I tend to assume if my threads were classics, they would be more active. I take solace in view numbers.

I like to browse your threads because they are interesting, you do your homework and are respectful of other fans and even the characters.  I'm especially impressed with your knowledge of families and family trees.  That stuff confuses the heck out of me, and you make it look easy!   Keep up the good work!
