It was inspired by that, but feasts of thanksgiving were already a practice throughout the world at the time. Lincoln designated the last Thursday in November as the official Thanksgiving Day holiday in 1863 (changed to the fourth Thursday under FDR). I believe this was also the first federally-recognized holiday in the US.
