Smudge
I saw Modest Mouse last New Years Eve and they put on a really good show... Anyway, I'm listening to Beirut's The Flying Club Cup. It's really, really good. Also, having seen them a couple of weeks ago, The Cat Empire have been getting a bit of a workout on my iPod.

BLU-RAY
Yar, that's what I figured you meant, I only have a couple of songs off of NB as well. Neon Bible, Intervention, and My Body Is A Cage. You're missing out (though Intervention might be the best song on the album). Keep the Car Running, the Well and the Lighthouse, and Antichrist Television Blues ftw. Picked up Step in the Arena by Gang Starr, the new Coheed album (really fucking long title), and Perfecting Loneliness by Jets to Brazil yesterday. Liked Step a lot (my first Gang Starr album; I bought it 'cause I love Execution of a Chump). The new Coheed album is pretty bad on first listen, because you go into all their stuff expecting a certain sound that was really omnipresent on their first album. But I'm liking it a lot better after repeated listens; there's still a couple songs I don't like that much, but there's a bunch that I really, really like. Anybody read the comic books? I haven't, but I kind of want to (and kind of don't).
Bazzlebane
The entirety of Neon Bible is a must in anyone's CD collection. ETA: I do not agree on anything DVD ROTS says about Coheed. Nothing to like, ever.
Knight of the Wineskin
Picked up Step in the Arena by Gang Starr, the new Coheed album (really fucking long title) Heh. Try reading the track list on a Red Sparrows album. Each track name is at least one (long) sentence long.
BLU-RAY
Heh. Try reading the track list on a Red Sparrows album. Each track name is at least one (long) sentence long. Yeah, I'll bet. This album actually has really short titles for the songs, but the album itself is called "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: Volume II: No World For Tomorrow". The title lengths for songs on their 2nd and 3rd albums are ridiculous.
Xray the Enforcer
Listening to Love and Rockets and Fields of the Nephilim, and wondering exactly when music died. I suspect Lemmy Kilmister was involved somehow.
Bazzlebane
"Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: Volume II: No World For Tomorrow". Proof that Coheed and Cambria are a bunch of douches.
BLU-RAY
Proof that Coheed and Cambria are a bunch of douches. Bazz has committed the cardinal sin of letting one half-paid-attention-to live show determine his views on the band. Also, what I assume is his loathing for Rush. Though not being a Rush listener myself, I can't really comment on whether there are similarities.
childe roland
so much hatred bazz. i enjoyed there last three albums but this one has just been lacking for me. also keep the car running is just awesome song
Bazzlebane
What kills me most is that lead singer's voice. I could get past the douchey song titles (I have for Sunset Rubdown, who are equally guilty...), the histrionic guitar bits (I put up with Jack White's excesses...), the bizarro goth D&D lyrics and the Rush-wannabe arrogance if it weren't for that guy's horribly annoying singing voice. Ah, so they are exactly like Rush, then. But bizarro goth D&D lyrics are not a sin. Better than than whining about your girlfriend and your sad-sack life. Meh. That is kind of hit-or-miss, especially at live shows. If you caught one when he was smoking and drinking a lot... ouch. (I can't remember when the show you told me about was). He's gotten vocal training, etc.; recording wise, his voice gets compared a bunch to Geddy Lee's (again, I can't comment). Also, I don't think they ever listened to Rush until after folks started comparing the two. They're clearly Iron Maiden, Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd fanboys, though. Look, I've played D&D for eighteen years. That's probably longer than most of the guys in C&C have been alive. I don't need to listen to their lame plots*... *Mine were much better. Coheed's stuff is sci-fi. You'd think on this board, of anywhere, folks would be able to tell the difference.
Bazzlebane
I try and not listen too closely when C&C is on. In fact, it's usually a good reason to change the radio station.
