BWB Norcal IV

Looks like a great time...I'm sorry I missed out. :(

Jon, you look sharp! Nice touch with the tie! And Teri, you look amazing.

Poker night sounds like a lot of fun. Count me in, although I might be out of town the weekend of March 21-23. Maybe.

Ok, I'm gonna go through our planned and theorized activities for the next few months. Let me know if something doesn't belong on the list or needs to be taken off.

March - Poker Night. Looks like second weekend in March as third is bad for alot of people. I can host it at my place but that is far to drive for everyone but me and nkmayers.

April - Camping Trip. We should wait till spring, methinks, so we can avoid the camping newbie problem of rain. I think arriving Friday afternoon after work and staying till Saturday afternoon sounds good.

May - BayCon. A sci-fi fantasy convention. GoH is Tim Powers, one of Kat's favorites. We could do Lodey's hotel party idea in my suite and throw an open party of the BWB if we get enough people to throw it.

That's all I can think of for now. I don't think we should plan more than three months ahead anyway.

Ok, breaking what I just said, but I have another activity for those going to Denvention.

The Great BWB NorCal Road Trip

So Bronn is driving to Denvention. I want to drive too. Why not go together? We would save tons on flight and gas together. Why not let more people come? I think Lodey would be down and I feel Teri would too. Kat says she needs to see first. But she might come to. So that's five of us. I'm thinking two cars or one, stuffed car.

Anyone else want to drive to Denvention?

Sorry, don't put me down for that one. My sister lives an hour north of Denver in Greeley, and one of her daughters lives in a suburb of south Denver called Centennial, and I'm going to be flying out early on the weekend before the convention so that I can visit both of them. I haven't seen my sister since Nov 2006, and I haven't seen her daughter for about five years.

And taking time off work is always hard for me, so I never want to spend more time enroute than I have to.

The rest of your schedule sounds doable for me, though. And a lot of fun.

How about making the camping trip somewhere down the coast, like near Big Sur, so that Faceless Dude won't have so much distance to travel for once? (That's still just about halfway between San Francisco and San Luis Obispo. I think some of us forget how far SLO is from SF, about 230 miles.)

Too bad about the road trip. Though I understand about work.

Somewhere else for camping sounds cool to me. We can't very well camp in SF and it's about time we got out of there for an event anyway. This is BWB NorCal, not BWB SF.

I started another Sexy Threads thread in GenChat. It's on the first page there. LINK

But. But. But.

There's this great campsite under 280 just a half mile or so from the ballpark. All the cool homeless folks stay there. Best camping in SF, bar none.

Alas, I must confess that to me camping is akin to sleeping on dirt. If y'all find a place with a nice bed-and-breafast nearby, I'd love to hang out with you by the campfire into the wee hours. But the reality is that I've never once gotten a good night sleep in a sleeping bag - and that includes post-deathhike trips up to the foot of Vogelsang in Yosemite.

 Ok Bronn. You can stay in the B&B. We'll camp. And SF is fine I guess. But we're getting out of SF for BayCon! Btw, do you want to go to BayCon? See Tim Powers?

you know the wine train is a great ride through the valley, but it doesn't stop at any of the wineries. Its a nice ride with a fancy meal. I'd not say no, however.

and we should probably add the "beach bbq in Santa Cruz" for the summer....

Though I was pretty much serious about the 'campground near a B&B' plan. There is a good cheap campground in the Alexander Valley in Sonoma where I stayed whilst doing canoe trips in and shortly after college. If some want to combine the ideas, it might make for a nice day trip. Especially those inclined to do a little bit of bicycle touring/camping/wine tasting.

That's neat. We can camp Friday night (some can stay in a B&B) and we go to the wineries the next day. Sounds good.

It's not a big campground and not particularly out in nature, but it is along the banks of the Russian River and fairly close to several good wineries (Silver Oak, Ridge, Hanna, Robert Young, Geyser Peak, Alexander Valley Winery, and one of my favorites - Stryker Sonoma).

If you wanted to make it a two-night trip, you could do the quiet night around the campground one night and a road trip to River Rock Casino the other (not that I'd expect that portion of the plan would have any appeal at all to you, Jon). The campground is also something relatively cheap like $10/person per night.

Actually, the casino doesn't appeal to me anymore. I quit gambling. :) That's why I want to just deal at poker night. But that could actually kill three birds with one stone. Poker night (do they have poker there?), camping, and wineries.
