The History of the Board

Zorse Wars info is also slightly incorrect. The 4 Zorse men were PBT, Flayed Man, Krafus, and Brady...if I recall correctly.

I think Lannister & Voland were the 3rd and 4th. Brady & Kraf probably got in at some point, but weren't among the original 4 Zorsemen of the Apocalypse, IIRC. Brady, is that right? And I believe Ran's exact words in closing the Zorse Wars thread were:

"It ends now. Thanks."

Haven't seen Voland or Kraf around in a very long time, now that I think about it - kinda miss 'em both.

ETA: Not sure we can include the Restoration stuff without at least passing mention of the LADL (Littlefinger Anti-Defamation League). I couldn't begin to go into details about that particular bit of long-running nonsense, but Levendis & a few others we rarely see anymore (Ossie's little brother - Petyr Baelish or something like that??? - was very prominent) were at their peak at that point. IIRC, some of the "Restoration" peeps like Castellan Hauberk were very much in it for the anti-LADL angle.

It all reminds of that Monty Python episode where the sergeant keeps popping in to calm things down because the show is getting too silly.

I do remember Voland somewhere in the mix, but I can pretty much guarantee that Lannister was not on the side of the Zorse. :P It could have been Voland instead of Brady. *shrugs*

Hell that was so long ago I can barely remember most of it but a few of the highlights. At this point I suppose it really doesnt matter who was who...it was just a good time.

Regarding Dragonstone, my recollection was that the board was in existence prior to the release of _Legends_ in mid-1998, but frankly, I could be wrong. Digging around, I see LindaElane once stated that Dragonstone had started sometime in October 1998. So ... not sure. I'm terribly with dates.

just a couple of small additions -

- TBBtW was started on 12/19/01 and was a cherished place for many years.

- Technically the first offshoot board wasd the small eesite board we used to discuss the 4 SoS chapters Greengerg (am i recalling this correctly?)and Fourthman provided for us.

- I think you left out Jeordhi in the whole Restoration bit. Also YW's thread "Do I Know You" or somethin along those lines led to some serious board drama, which led to the second "What's Wrong With The Board" thread :P

I haven't been in Misc that much recently. Have those threads died out? If so, I wonder why.

we're too big and too scattered for those sorts of reflective threads. back when it was a pretty small and tight community change had a bigger impact. i dunno.

Events: the 2006 soccer world cup sweepstakes, that generated so much posting and activity, that it required its own subforum for the whole summer. (started unwittingly by zakalwe7)

That could have a whole history of its own, with all the name changes, Viktor's bar, Mr X's ridiculous Babelfish translations, etc.

I will confirm that, while I was a Zorse supporter, I was never one of the 4 Zorsemen. ByTor, Flayed and Voland were certainly three of the four, and I'm inclined to agree with Dub that Krafus was the fourth.

It was the Porne War, with a final 'e'.

I think I joined the board in early 2001, right after finishing reading ASOS. I was pretty active for a year and a half then slowed down a lot. I participated to a couple of Trial of Five, I believe, first on the board then on the Songs of Westeros. I also participated to the first Survivor game over there, which was won by Morena (I came close, damnit!). I was a big participatant of the Porne War, from before they migrated away from the board (at Ran's request). I was a member of the LADL and a founder of the Sandor Supporting Staff, which was supposed to also do Sansa Anti Defamation League. I kinda watched the Zorse war from afar.

I first met people at the meeting in Paris. Then I was at the eurocommie meeting in Prague. And lately at Oxford.

Not entirely accurate, though the LADL definitely was what I perceived to be symptomatic of a problem at the time.

Yup. Greengerg led the auction bid (and got a mention in aSoS) and Fourthman copied the 4 chapters for the 40 (?) or so people that were part of the bid. Fun times. :P

Ahhh. Insane times.

And yes Niamh, Zak more or less started the WC06 thing when he got England in his office draw. Somehow, somebody thought it would be a good idea if the board did something similiar. Flags, names ensued.

Huh. Didn't remember Legends coming out so early.

Oh, and there was making the R+L=J topic a sticky in General, which immediately cleared up about 50% of the posts on the front page of the subforum at any one time.

 Clever idea. It was why I went onto the net looking for aSoIaF info also.

Fondest board memories:

Kal and Os clashing over the 'Robert Jordan' is a sellout thing, which Zak occasionally tries to restart for shits and giggles. The flame war as art form.

NHAW I and II.

A dozen people (including two mods who really should have known better) standing around *name redacted* as he impersonated *name redacted* on the board only for Ran to rumble him and deliver some deadpan discipline ("You seem to have accidentally chosen the same user name, avatar and signature as *name redacted*; I have now fixed this obviously unintentional mistake," or something to that effect).

The mountainousness of Turkey.

Reptilicus. Steven Seagal's Energy Drink.

Heh, was that the thread where Lannister & I got in a huge fight with you, J, & Dub? And then the writer's group almost got banned from tBBtW? Ahhhhhhhhh, good times.

Speaking of flamefests, perhaps we should mention the Scorpion King. Or on second thought, perhaps not.

Actually, that idea came from me, and a couple others I believe, kicking it about in Chat over Zak's perdicament.

Ah memories. I think I joined thee eesite board a short time before the move to EzBoards. I first became aware of GRRM at the RJ newsgroup (if people remember those), I seem to recall KAH posting there. I read the prequel in Legends before reading the actual books, and finished tCoK around the same time as GRRM turned in the manuscript for ASOS. Based on this I believe I joined eesite early in 2000 under a different user name (shortly after finishing the first book). I also used this at first at EzBoard, before forgetting my password after a stay away from the boards.

I rejoined EzBoard with my current user name in August 2001 with my first post being a lengthy defense of those clearly misunderstood Others.

My first BwB-meet was the first Eurocommie meet in Paris in 2003, so I got a chance to see MW before his passing later that year.
