Werthead
Many thanks to Dylanfanatic for braving the dangers of the Official Terry Goodkind Forum, where dangers await even the most wary. He brought back this report to the WM Other Fantasy board where the universal reaction was As we all know, I have been saying for awhile that the boards were going to change. Well today is that day. Everyone must keep in mind that this is an official site. It is dedicated to and should reflect ideas of the author and the series. This is not just some random fan site. So the rules as far as the SOT forums go. Those forums are to ask questions about the series and to discuss the books. Any post stating that the books or the author sucks will be deleted. IF you have some constructive criticism, that is fine, but you must be polite. Think about what you write before you post it. If I do not like it, it will be removed. Also, these are not your typical fantasy books. In fact Terry does not consider them fantasy books at all. They are books about the nobility of the human spirit, which happen to have some fantasy elements.[Excuse me while I vomit noisily into a trashcan nearby] With that in mind we are not going to be posting threads leek, "who is hotter, Kahlan or Cara.";"Who would win in a fight, Zedd or Nathan" These are frivolous threads and do not belong on this site. Many thanks to the D-fan for that one. I now officially declare that Terry Goodkind is the David Brent of the epic fantasy genre. Next he'll be begging us not to laugh the "laugh of hate" at him and then doing a disturbing dance much to the horror of us all.

Merentha
"Any post stating that the books or the author sucks will be deleted." Interesting. Looks like the vast majority of the oldboard's other author's section would be gone... Mistleten: Terry Goodkind wrote the Sword of Truth series, and is pretty thoroughly reviled for his hackneyed plot devices, his awful prose, and his tendency to shove his Ayn Rand philosophy down the reader's throats. Oh, yeah, forgot about his pretentiousness. Edit in light of werewolfv2's post: Actually, i would say the "characters" are even less well developed than some of Elaine Cunningham's Forgotten Realms stuff...far worse, actually. werewolfv2
anybody see a flaw with this statement made in response to what goodkind is talking about when he says he doesnt write fantasy? Although the books contain many elements found in the fantasy genre, the stories are not about magic or world-building. Instead, they are about the human characters. 1> lots of magic 2> created a world 3> the "human characters" are no more defined than 90% of the rest of fantasy
diabloblanco18
Having browsed the forums briefly once, I can state with reasonable assurance that this will wipe the entire board almost clean of content.
Larry.
It's the part where their mod goes: It is dedicated to and should reflect ideas of the author and the series that really made me shake my head. I think I'll rest easy at night being a Democratic Socialist without ever having bent my head to the ideals of Objectivism And nice to see my little post is making the rounds now! They are books about the nobility of the human spirit, which happen to have some fantasy elements. Ugh. Delusions of grandeur. He's right, they're not your typical fantasy books. They're far worse. Think about what you write before you post it. If I do not like it, it will be removed. Who's this "I" and why does he have unilateral control? It's not actually Goodkind is it? Larry.
It's the site's webmaster. Guy goes by the screen name of Zedd. Misspells quite badly, I've noticed. And he really did go into a delete/banfest with about a half-dozen people from wotmania a couple of years ago (I wasn't involved, but I heard about it) after one person politely said something about the books not being all that enjoyable. Around that same time, they removed their Other Authors section, possibly because others were talking about certain books being better than Goodkind's. I'll have to search through the OF archives at wotmania to see if I can find the relevant post(s). Just know, however, that I don't mind pointing out just how stupid their policy is as a result of such behavior, though. But at least I just use the guy's own words against him without having to say much else. Okay, I've edited this to included a link to part of a thread about the whole delete/ban issue, as the poster here provides what got him deleted and then eventually banned from that site. Enjoy! Larry.
When who comes from wotmania? You meant 'they', to refer to the posters from there who got deleted/banned at the Goodkind forum, right? Otherwise, there might be a bit of confusion aobut the 'when he comes from wotmania' - because we all know that Goodkind webmaster wouldn't enjoy the climate over there too much Oh, as for OsRavan - from what I've seen of both him and that Goodkind forum webmaster, I'd have to say it'd be neck and neck for most misspellings

Can't even imagine Ran reacting the way this guy did. I've posted a little on wotmania and blacktower, but they seem pretty irrational and don't get near the amount of feedback that this board does. Think I'll stick to this one.
Werthead
Okay, I've edited this to included a link to part of a thread about the whole delete/ban issue, as the poster here provides what got him deleted and then eventually banned from that site. Enjoy! I've only had time to read about a couple of those posts but, Utterly unbelievable. Holding different views to Goodkind makes you inherently evil? If you use any of his ideas for RPGs (though why would you?) then it is morally the same as breaking into his house and stealing his stuff? Global warming is a cover story for a sinister hidden agenda? He never reads fantasy and has never read Lord of the Rings? He once owned a 'very noble' wolf who 'taught him about wolves'? Although, in all fairness, I once had a dog, and the act of owning a dog taught me about dogs. This guy is a comedy goldmine! All hail Goodkind, Lord of the Prats! Brys
What's scary is that Goodkind actually sounded reasonable in an interview after he had written 4 books, and his comments on the fantasy genre actually seemed like a defence. Success and money must have corrupted him. For someone so fascinated with morals, it's surprising he didn't spot this in himself. early Goodkind interview
Krafus
I knew Badkind was an arrogant asshole. Now I know the webmaster of his official site is from the same mold. They are books about the nobility of the human spirit, which happen to have some fantasy elements. Yeah, Richard (the series' main character) displayed a lot of nobility when he butchered those peace protesters.
