As Ser Sean said, X-Ray, we'll sort you out in Denver and bring a long a bottle or two (I won't be able to drink beer all night - vodka and mixer for me).

Well done for all of your hard work and thank you for sorting it out!

X-Ray, Stego etc:

We will fix up the monies at the con and will happily help out. We are in town from the Sunday and will do any necessary legwork etc before the Friday.

(Aside from the time we are Casa Bonita)
Denver 2008 marks the seventh Worldcon for the Brotherhood Without Banners, and we hope it to mark a return to greatness for our fellowship. (The distance and cost involved with Japan certainly put a damper on our con activities last year.)
Speak for yourself. We threw a great party in Japan with zero budget. Where else has the BwB made a bar out of a bellhop station? We had knightings, scared n00bs, and all that good stuff.

Obviously thrilled about the suite. Obviously will be bringing some tasty beverages to share if anyone dares :P

One job you're not going to want to rotate is the security position, unless you can find enough volunteers to stay sober the entire evening.

Good point. :)
We do have a few non-drinkers, but yeah, we'll have to be more scheduled about security.

Yes. There will be two parties (both open to the public), one on Friday and one on Saturday. So, yeah, if you're willing to stay sober one evening, that would be awesome! :) Thanks!

I live in the Denver area, but still don't know if I'll be attending the actual con... (we're selling our house, so running out on the wife for a weekend to tend kids and house upkeep is not a good idea :) ).

But, I still want to sneak out one night and hang out with the brotherhood, and possibly help you guys if there's anything I can do before hand.

I can help Ser Stubby with any tasks you all set for him, but not at Casa Bonita. ;) I guess everyone needs to go there once, but the food is bleech. Get the fajita at least. Your stomach will thank you later. (I have to go to this place everytime my nieces are in town...)

ETA: Ok, I just talked with my wife. I'm going to do one day at the con and one alternate night to hang out with you all. I didn't realize there were day rates. I really didn't want t pay $225 and only go for a day. :)

So, which night is BWB THE party? Friday or Saturday?

I may be able to sneak down for one night of party too. If so, I'll bring a bottle or two of our homemade cyser. It will be about 10 months old at that point. We opened a bottle last weekend, and it is already quite drinkable, although not quite as mellow as I think it will be after a full year. It was made with local Northern Colorado organic apples and wildflower honey from Northern Indiana given to my husband by a 87 year old piano tuner/bee keeper. I love that it is alcohol with a story!

Count me in as a volunteer. I would be willing to stay (mostly) sober one of the nights to help with keeping things calm. And one of my few skills is passing thru a room with a trash bag and picking up empties. Its always great to have a chance to exercise that talent!

Is the Adam's Mark THE Party Hotel?

Hello all.

I thought I would collect all the info about our volunteer needs for the BWB parties on Friday and Saturday.

In advance:

We need to make fliers for the party. If you enjoy design and poster making, put something together and send it along. Ideally, it should be in some sort of easily editable file format, as we won't know the room number for the party until we check into the suite on Friday afternoon. But then we can print them up and post them about the convention. So there's two things: (1) make fliers and (2) distribute them.

Also, once we get the suite we will need some help bringing party supplies up from the car to the room. We will also need to set up the room and do a bit of decorating. It would also be great if someone with a car could be around for any emergency shopping duties.

During the party, the main two jobs we need help with are door greeters and security. The greeters are the people who hang out at the door, let people know who we (the Brotherhood Without Banners) are, tell them what we are all about, and welcome them to our excellent party. The security people have to, well, do the things you would expect security people to do: keep an eye on anyone getting out of hand, let the bartenders know who needs to be cut off, escort troublemakers out of the party, and generally make sure no guest is causing unpleasantness for other guests.

The other party job is the trash and ice detail, which involves going by the bar now and then to see if trash needs to be taken out or if ice needs to be gathered.

Lastly, we need help with clean up at the end of each night (because cleaning as we go makes it all easier in the long run) and on Sunday morning, when we will need to undecorate and reassemble the room in its proper configuration.

If you feel compelled to sign up for a job in thread, go right ahead. Otherwise, I will be in Denver from Wednesday morning on, so we can sort this out in person. PM if you need my cell phone number.

Thanks!

I did decorations and carrying stuff in LA and I'm happy to do that again....but do we have decorations, or is there something that needs to be brought? (Not sure if I have time to buy or make anything tomorrow.)

Awesome!

The plan is to stay creatively low key with decorations. We can probably pick up some colored lightbulbs and christmas lights once we're out there.j

I'm bringing a bigass suitcase (yay for no checked luggage fees on Southwest), so if I have any extra room I'll see if I can bring anything for the cause. :)

Hmmm. Well after finally browsing MG's pics of the NY BWB, I'm pretty sure I could handle security jus' fine. :P So, that's my preference.
