I really hope they do Hal Jordan instead of John Stewart.
That's very different from saying Batman kills him. "Paying the price" in relation to the rest of the quote could easily mean the metaphorical death of Harvey and the birth of Two-Face. Hell, it could mean the loss of half his face and confinement in Arkham.
He becomes Two-Face before threatening an innocent, so metaphorical birth wouldn't be the price. Arkham might be. In context, though, the quote does seem to lean towards his death. Yes, there's some ambiguity in the movie, but the interview doesn't seem to be the same way.

I'd rather they had clearly killed him off. These are movies, not comics, they'll be rebooted in another decade or two, so they don't need Two-Face to live. There are plenty of other villains for Batman to face in the meantime. Talia has a reason to come to Gotham even if Ra's is dead, especially if he's dead; there's still Catwoman; they might be able to pull off a decent Riddler. Scarecrow could break out. Or they could even just focus on mundane criminals and the war with the cops.
Ledger was sublime. What astonishing character immersion. Strange to think that's the same guy who starred in A Knight's Tale.
*Gasp*

I agree A Knight's Tale was a romp, just like Casanova. But it wan't that bad.

I was depressed when I left TDK. Ledger's wonderful psychotic Joker cannot be reproduced. I would go back to see it just to see Ledger's tongue sucking Joker -- is it true he did the first makeup for the Joker and it was adopted for the movie?

And the dark place that Batman is now puts his character in line with the comic. He's isolated - Rachel had to die. He questions everything from now on.

President Bush is Batman!
There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war. Like W, Batman is vilified and despised for confronting terrorists in the only terms they understand. Like W, Batman sometimes has to push the boundaries of civil rights to deal with an emergency, certain that he will re-establish those boundaries when the emergency is past.

And like W, Batman understands that there is no moral equivalence between a free society -- in which people sometimes make the wrong choices -- and a criminal sect bent on destruction. The former must be cherished even in its moments of folly; the latter must be hounded to the gates of Hell.

"The Dark Knight," then, is a conservative movie about the war on terror. And like another such film, last year's "300," "The Dark Knight" is making a fortune depicting the values and necessities that the Bush administration cannot seem to articulate for beans.
I'm certain most of the posters here will agree with this commentary.

Well considering he gassed one of those bat-fakes I'd say he was working with the criminals.

this movie just came out in indonesia. every showing is sold out. i am about to watch it for the second time in six hours and i will, for the second time, be sitting in the front row.

indonesians didn't get much of the movie. too much dialog that didn't subtitle well from the indonesian i was able to make out. but they did go "wuuuuuAHHHHHHHuuuuuuh" pretty often during the movie.

and then they brought out two-face. indonesians are used to making ghost story movies with terrible special effects, so that character had them scared shitless. squeals, gasps, stunned silence.

off to once again watch the movie for two dollars!
Excellent movie. Lived up to the hype and deserves the accolades it has received.

Only nit I have is the jumpy editing, and only one instance that truly bugged me: I would have liked to see the Joker overpower that cop he taunted into coming at him in the interrogation room. The quick cut between those scenes was a stretch for me.

Ledger was sublime. What astonishing character immersion. Strange to think that's the same guy who starred in A Knight's Tale.

/slight snips here 'n there
I thoroughly enjoyed it, first off. I'm not a big Batman fan, so bear that in mind. Before seeing Ledger's performance, I thought a lot of the comments of how much more he had to offer were a bit of post-funeral ass-kissing, but I now completely see what they mean. It's a dirty rotten shame he's not around anymore. (totally outside of the human element.) With Ledger gone, I really don't see the point in making any other Batmans. :ducks:

Nit: I agree about the jumpy editing. I got whiplash a few times, jumping from the middle of one scene to another. At least one time, it took me a bit to figure out where they were at in time, place, action.

Heresy: I thought Rachel was a boring character and wasn't upset to see her go at the end. They should keep Harvey dead too (er, Two-Face.) That whole character doesn't track right, IMO.

I saw it at an IMAX and was glad I did, but I would like to see it again on a smaller screen in a quieter theater. There's a few plot points I'm still unclear on.

But man it was cool to see Batman standing right on the tip of a building at night on that big screen! And to see him swooooop! down!

Oops, I wasn't trying to bash A Knight's Tale. I liked it too. I was referring more to just how bright Ledger proved himself capable of shining when given good material to work with.

After seeing his Joker, I wonder how many huge, complex roles would have been written specifically for him. It's fucking depressing that he's gone, it really is.
Ok this is hilarious. And yes, Megan Fox is hotter than MG and for the record, I was not comparing looks.

Seriously though, how do you people (not you specifically Simon) visit this thread with spoilers? Do you have no interest in the movie?
I didn't read most of the thread, just like I hadn't watched the movie.

Though I did finally go and see it today and yeah, it was pretty awesome. You know what Harvey Dent made me think of? He made me wonder how a movie maker could, in two hours, create a heroic character who is supposed to be the savior of Gotham, a true hero you really liked and rooted for, and then convincingly turn him evil. IN TWO HOURS. George Lucas couldn't create a tragic hero's fall from grace in three movies--we got whiny bitch boy Anakin. Harvey's Dent character arc in the Dark Knight will forever be my example of how Lucas screwed the pooch (and then later LIED and said "no! Anakin was always supposed to be a whiny bitch, not hero!!!!!).

Favorite part? When Maggie G. met her fate. I never liked her. I can't say why, but I just can't stand her. Man I hope Megan Fox is in the next one.

The hype for this movie was a bit too much. I'd say it's Die Hard-good, not The Godfather-good. Ledger probably did the best comic book villain ever but that's not saying much and it definitely wasn't Oscar-worthy but he'll get it cause he's dead and got a lot of attention for dying. It was a completely one-dimensional role (although executed perfectly) except for the groan-worthy pseudo-philosophy. Also Bane will be the next villain cause he's the only non-cheeseball villain left. Catwoman and the Riddler? God, no. THIS IS SIRIUZ BATMAN AND MUST HAVE MORAL PONDERING BETWEEN FIGHT SCENES.
