Will be interesting to get more details of the story. Particularly how Butterwell got ahold of the eggs. Was he Aegon IV's procurer? ;)
SPOILER: The Mystery Knight

Aegon spent a night at Butterwell (or whatever it was called). When he arrived, the lord had three virgin daughters, when Aegon left he had managed to make three bastards...

I knew as soon as he said Aegon was a guest how Butterwell had gotten the eggs.

SPOILER: Dragon Eggs
Although this is not especially clear from the chapter he read. We hear that there are five eggs left from the last dragon's clutch and a few others floating around. All the Targ princes have one (they were put in their cribs). Egg has one. John the Fiddler is probably The Black Dragon's son, trying to start another rebellion - he dreams of the dragon egg from Butterhall cracking open and producing a live dragon (which is why he desperately wants it) - the dream is probably a reference to Egg himself.

Shouldn't we put this stuff in a Dunc and Egg spoiler thread, rather than the Con report?

Nothing new to add, other than a few of us are guessing that GRRM read about a third of the story (judging from the stack of paper he had before him).

So, basically, he cut off just when the plot was getting really interesting and now we have to wait another 15 months or so for the end. :)

Being a GRRM fan teaches patience.

Best T-shirt I saw at the con (for sale not being worn):

You don't need to see my chest.
These aren't the breasts you're looking for.
Move along.

And thanks again to Ser Stubby for finding me and escorting me to the actual reading room. Otherwise I would have been waiting in a different room 45 minutes later....

As I type this, most of the gang should be on their way to Casa Bonita. Yes, South Park fans. There really is a Casa Bonita. And it looks just as bad in real life as in the cartoon. :) I'll be joining them as soon as my kids are in bed. I'll take photos of the tequila prompted festivities and try to post them tomorrow.

There were rumors of some people skipping the indoor cliff diving to find a "titty bar" before karaoke. If there are no stories tomorrow, someone is lying....

This story sounds great!

Some thoughts:
-Butterwell had been the hand of the king that was dismissed for incompetence just before the Redgrass Field, and that according to Ser Eustace Osgrey had tried to have one foot in each camp. As a hand of the king he could have access to the eggs that Quickfinger had tried to steal.
-There were five eggs from the last dragon's clutch and each Targ princes gets one in the crib. Aegon III's had two sons and three daughters (we already knew Elaena had one). After the deaths of Daeron, Baelor and Daena, three eggs were freed). I'm surprised that there was an egg available for Egg's crib, being the fourth son of a fourth son (Valarr, Matarys, Daeron, Aerys and Aemon came before him).
-The story involves a Frey bride, and at the time of the story our old Walder Frey is already born and has 4/5 years. I'm dying for a cameo!!!

Here's my report from yesterday.

Got up late for me which is after 8am, yeah yeah I know, I'm on vacation. Got a little breakfast and headed down to the convention center for the 10am Rothfuss signing. Even at ten in the morning there was a line. I'm beginning to dread Martin's signing on Saturday. Like Scalzi, Rothfuss is a cool and funny guy. He had us all hold up his book while he took a picture so I might end up on his blog. :D Took a full tour of the dealer's room since I only got a cursory glimpse yesterday. Bought three more books  : got a first hardcover signed edition of Fevre Dream, hardcover of The Ice Dragon, and from the Subpress table I got On Stranger Tides. I had to physcially restrain myself from buying a signed hardcover of Scalzi's Agent to the Stars priced at $250. Okay, if any of you con people read this: for God's sake people keep me out of the dealer's room!!! At this rate I'll need to buy a suitcase to take home all the stuff I'm buying!

Walking around the dealer's room I got to meet Sean and Silanah who finally got in late last night. Sean dude, I hope I never piss you off. :stunned: I wandered off to get lunch at a small burger joint across from my hotel called Good Times. It was kinda like Sonic I guess if you've ever had it.

Went back down the the con at 12:30 for the GRRM reading. I told a fair bit about it yesterday so I won't repeat it here. ;) All the BwB people I met yesterday were there including the awesome LP, LacyinTexas, Yags, Isis, Myrrdin, Kat, RaceBannon, and Fenyring (sorry man I'm not sure of the spelling). I hope I didn't miss anyone. The reading was awesome. Martin seems like a really great guy just from what I saw. He's also a really good out-loud reader. Really wanted him to finish the D&E story but we can't always get what we want.

After the reading, we broke up into small groups for lunch. Since I already ate I posted the report on the reading and had just enough time to head back down for a panel on ancient libraries. The moderator was Fred Lerner (of whom I've read one or two of his books) who gave a brief survey on the history of libraries in Europe, Asia, and the Arabic world. Then he opened up for questions and commets. It was a pretty interesting panel.

Went back to the hotel and found out Blue Rose of the North finally made it into town after having her earlier flight cancelled. Wtf is up with the flights to Denver? Almost everyone I know has had problems. Blue ran into MJS and Teri down at the convention center and they headed up to Rock City Brewery. I met them, LP and a friend, and Blue's friend at the restaurant. We hung out for a bit and were going to head over to Casa Bonita with the rest of the BwB when the plans got scratched so we just stayed where we were. The others showed up and wandered down to the Cheesecake factory though it seems later that only some of the made it. :dunno:

Mike, Teri, Blue, Blue's friend, and I headed back to Mike's room at the Sheraton to hang out. Then we wandered up the bid parties which turned out to be a pretty crazy affair. After that we headed to LP's room and then to the Sex Perversions in LotR panel. Yeah, don't ask. :P I begged out at that point because I was tired. Hey, even on nights I don't work the next day, I'm usually in bed in 11pm. I hear tonight's BwB party will be into the wee hours. I just hope I survive this.

Our day yesterday followed a slightly different tack to Ben's so I'll run thrugh some notes on events.

The night before there was bunch of us on a free bus heading back to the parties when it broke down. Everyone, including a bazillion Rockies fans on the way home from the washed out game, was kicked off the bus into a pouring downpour. We decided to go back to our hotel to get changed and promptly crashed. We did remember to set the alarm so we get down to the con early.

Some nameless con staffer had told us the day before that we needed to register for GRRM's reading so we wanted to get there and get listed. At dinner the con veterans said this was unusual so we decided to head over here and see if it was necessary. It wasn't necessary and I commited a nooby con mistake and rang a couple of folks who had been at the parties late.

Wandered off from there to get some brekky and found a little bagel place. We went back to the con and parted wth $$ by ordering polo shirts with the con logo on them. Ran into Sean (great to catch up with him) and Silanah and wandered around the dealer's room with them for a while. Succesfully managed to keep the wallet closed - excess baggage for us is already going to be a bitch so we can't keep buying extra stuff.

Went to GRRM's reading and spent a bit of time chatting with Aussie author Karen Miller for a while in the line. The reading was cool - I agree with everything Ben and others have reported so no need to add more other than to add that Myrddin came along in person and it was cool to meet him after he had been a voice on a phone offering restaurant advice etc.

After that we went off to lunch with a whole stack of people at a place with good subs etc. The bloke in charge was somewhat annoyed by the whole stack of us turning up and he wanted to close for the afternoon. After lunch we hung out with Isis and Iceman of the North and went to a panel on soldiers in SFF which was a bit of a letdown. After debating other panels we went back to the hotel and got ready for the evening festivities.

Ten of us made it to Casa Bonita (thanks for the ride ztemmy). We had been warned not to expect much from the food and the best I can say is that it was edible. We did see Black Bart, cliff divers and a magician so the South Park fans back home will not be disappointed.

After that we made our way to some of the con parties. The Aussie bid show had no beer :stunned: . We wound up in the Seattle bid party and found a creative use for airconditioners. Lots of sledging and laughs up there and we had a good night. Stacks of boarders turned up there and we were stoked to put faces to so many names. Everyone is cool (except in the hallways of the party floor) and its all been top stuff so far.

I've been told Pod was spotted in the dealer's room, hiding all of the books by GRRM so that he could buy them later.

A interesting con parties last night? What have the bid parties been like, I wonder? I'm kinda pulling for Reno, since if Linda and I were to go, it'd just be a hop and a jump away from Vegas. ;) Seattle could be cool because of the Science Fiction Museum and other such things... And the rains. :P

the quick version of the rest of my day goes as follows:

landed an hour late, then wasted my life in traffic trying to get downtown (mr. x is a hero)
dealt with MORE work-related crap (which I am also doing right now)
registered at the con and met everyone in the dealers' room
made slow slooooooow progress to the Cheesecake Factory. Met old friends and new, and said a lot of inappropriate things.
drank a Stego MegaGirly drink. somehow, it seemed fitting. Yags shamed me by drinking gin rickeys.
went to Aussie bid party (sorry Stubby, but it seems that those rooms are not allowed booze -- I spoke with the the Montreal con chair, who explained the sad truth), but didn't stay very long. No place to sit and very brightly lit.
Descended upon Seattle 2011 bid party with the posse like a pack of locusts. We commandeered the air conditioning and also unplugged their radio (it was making hideous squawking noises). GoN, CoC and Skylark the Red showed up and I squeed. We formulated plans for pelt retrieval.

As far as I know, there was no trip to the gentlemens' cabaret. But then again, I left at midnight. ;)
Today will be spent in a frantic orgy of shopping and party set-up.
