Is it possible to return to a topic page without returning to page 1?
Sometimes I skim older pages (page 9 or so) and see I thread/topic I want to read. After I read a few pages I want to return to the index page where I found the thread (page 9) but I get thrown all the way back to page 1. Is there a way to stop this from happening because I dont always keep track of the page Im on.

Thanks,
E-Nov

Thats what Ive been doing but sometimes (mostly after 2 back clicks) you get a 'timed out' message and you have to get back to the first page.
Besides its pretty annoying when you are reading on page 9 of a thread on page 7 that you have to all the way back to the index page or click return 9 times with the risk getting a timed out message.
Well, when you're on a topic with multiple pages, you can alter the second to last number to change what post you're on. Bit awkward, but it works.
What second to last number? Where?

In the URL string.

For example:

http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?showt...19674&st=30

If you change the 3 to a 2...

http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?showt...19674&st=20

Or I suppose you could change both, and go to...

http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?showt...19674&st=44

But sticking to the tens would probably be simpler.

If I tinker with the URL string I can jump to a certain post. in the examples you gave by changing 20 to 30 the page starts with the next post (31 if you change 20 to 30) if you change the number to say 55 the page starts with 56.
A nice trick which will come in handy some day but that wasnt exactly what I was looking for but thanks anyway.
