Justine Waddell (who I mentioned as a possible Cersei over on the Lannister thread) would also be a good Catelyn--and a fantastic Lyanna. Looks exactly how I envision Lyanna!

There are some better pictures of her (imdb ain't so good with the pictures sometimes) here.

I warmly second your choice.
She's a really talented girl, and has proven well i.e. in Silent hill that she is not necessarily a sweety
Maybe yet too expensive?

I don't have any low budgeted suggestion, though let me say this one and then I give up:
Miley Cyrus as Sansa!
She is cute enough, she can sing like a little bird and is loved and hated by the crowd in equal share.
Look at her looking like Sansa in this pic:

Catelyn Stark: Marg Helgenberger. No link needed - she's been a fixture on CSI Vegas for years as Catherine Willows.

Please consider this actor. He could fit in several parts within this saga: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. He was the star of the television show New Amsterdam, sadly canceled last year. I so want to see him back on the screen. He could be your Eddard, Renly Baratheon, Theon Greyjoy, Mance Rayder.
I write this assuming they will have to age the children to older teens/young adults due to the content:
Alexis Bledel as Sansa Stark
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0088127/
Looks younger than her age; perfect hair
I thought Bledel would look great as Margaery or as Lyanna. She seems to old for me as Sansa.

The Manderly's will probably fall victim to cast compression, but Allan Graf is also suitably burly. He's also a noted director and fight choreographer... having handled stunt work for Hanna Montana the Movie, The Waterboy, Wayne's World, and an episode of "Red Shoe Diaries".

Oh yeah, and he also played Captain Turner on Deadwood and coordinated the fight scene with Dan Dority.

I'm sure there's a spot for him there... maybe Bronze Yohn or Gerald Hightower or something.

eta... I read his bio some more... he started his career as a stunt double for Dick Butkus. He should be Randall Tarly.

I could see Coster-Waldau as a decent Mance Rayder actually...like that pick.

I'm going to put forward Conchita Campell for Arya - I thought she was pretty good in the 4400, and I think she'd be a decent fit for the part.

I'm so pleased that JDM was suggested upthread, because I am suggesting Jared Padalecki for Jon Snow.

Ned Stark = clive owen

I know, people will say he is too big of a star, but to you I offer this reasoning.

1. He is perfect, tall (the starks are tall remember, stop pointing to short actors), dark (the starks are dark, or atleast ned, arya, and jon are), and handsome (nough said right). And his voice.... perfect.

2. He would only need to sign on for one season, know what I mean? The characters who do not last long I think could attract larger names.

3. He is the type of actor to intersperse big budget films with niche projects, fully accepting that his pay will be different.

4. He is the right age. Age is very important, some people pick those too young or too old. He needs to be able to play mid-late 30s, clive can. (jodie foster can't, to whomever picked her for catelyn)

First I would like to second many of the suggestions I've seen:
Odette would be an AWESOME Lyanna (even got my vote over Kristen Kreuk!)
Marg Hellenburg for Catelyn - OMG YES she's got the dignity for the part.
Rachel Hurd wood for Sansa
Elizabeth Okey for Ygritte (does she even have the gap in her teeth?)
and Peta Wilson as Dacey

For my own I'd like to add:
The guy who played Eragon for Robb Stark, Ed Speelers.
And also from Eragon, the guy who played Murtagh (who is much better looking IMO) for Jon Snow - Garrett Hedlund and if that shot doesn't do it for you, there's his Normal Look.

My first choice for Sansa would have been Alexis Bledel, but I think she's just too old to play someone is is barely 13.

Tom Welling for snow, his a good actor, and he fits the part, would love to see him do different things besides being clark kent on smallville and he has the build to fit being jon snow http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0919991/
