Official Casting: The Lannisters

Max Pirkis will be 20 next year. He was like 17 or 18 by the end of his run on Rome and was looking very grown. He's too old to play Joffrey. Odds are by now he looks more like Jamie than Joffrey (but too young).

Charles Dance seems like a great choice for Tywinn. I'm gonna make a out-of-the-box suggestion for Tywinn, Lance Henriksen. I'd at least like to see what he did in a reading for the role.

Cersei - Jeri Ryan, anybody? Seriously, she's a damn good actress and talk about having the right look.

Sandor Clegane - gotta be Ray Stevenson, Titus Pullo from Rome. He's perfect. (had to edit this, had a brain fart)

My own mental image for Jamie was always Heath Ledger, but even if he were alive he was way too big for the show. I don't know what actor I've seen out there would be right.

Anti-Targ posted a great list of non-Dinklage Tyrion possibilities a seperate thread, but I think it belongs here:
Warwick Davis of Willow, Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia. With a long Filmography he has the acting cred to do it. Peter Dinklage has it over him in height (don't want Tyrion to be too short). Dinklage has got better acting cred, though Davis can hold his own. Davis probably doesn't have the sort of presence you need for Tyrion.

Arturo Gil is another Actor who has been around a fair bit, though nothing too huge. 2 things going for him is that he doesn't seem to have played an Ewok in either return of the Jedi or the Ewok spin offs. Again he is shorter than Dinklage. He is also well behind Dinklage on the acting cred front. Arturo has a reasonable Tyrion look and feel about him.

Martin Klebba of Pirates of the Caribbean fame. A bit short (excuse the pun) on lead roles to give a real taste of his ability to carry off a role like Tyrion. Again shorter than Dinklage, but taller than the other guys listed above. One thing in his favour is that he does stunt work, so no problem with him on a horse and in the thick of whatever action you need. I think he's the most Tyrion of all the guys in this list.

Mikey Post is closer in age to what I picture Tyrion to be than any other actor here. Though he is also the shortest at only 3'2". He doesn't have a great filmography and he doesn't look particularly Tyrion to me.

Mark Povinelli Seems to be a versatile dude, with Drama, comedy and fantasy in his repertoire. As well as stage and screen cred. Seems like the second best quality actor behind Dinklage (with Davis third). Still shorter than Dinklage, but tall enough to carry it off. Also does stunt work.

Jordan Prentice whose most recent film cred is 'In Bruges' alongside Colin Farell. Looks to have reasonable acting cred and has a reasonable Tyrion look to him.

Danny Woodburn is the last little person on the list who could be considered for Tyrion. He has a pretty long acting history including comedy, drama and schlock (Baywatch). He has a fair Tyrion look to him. Not sure how tall he is but judging by his relative size to tall folk I'd say he might be a little on the short side.
I'm a big Dinklage fan, myself (I even saw him do Richard III on stage - he was one of the few really good things about that particular production), but I think several of the above actors have done a lot of very good work and need to be considered here.

I also endorse Charles Dance for the part of Tywin. He's made for it. Watch him playing Tulkenhorn in BBC's Bleak House (a Dickens adaption) and you'll see why.

I also support Emily Blunt or Rosamund Pike for Cersei. Tricia Helfer is a nice lady, but not good enough to play Cersei, IMHO.

I also support Charles Dance for Tywin and Tricia Helfer for Cersei. Great choises.

I have half a mind to offer Andrew Bryniarski for Sandor Clegane, but I really doubt that the guy can act well enough. His career doesn't look like it's full of great roles, but he looks the part more than say... Ray Stevenson.

I like the suggestion of Bill Nhigy as Tywin.

Peter Dinklage is the perfect Tyrion but if he's NOT available, then a good back up would be JORDAN PRENTICE who's a good actor from the film In Bruges (many mistook him for Dinklage).

Jordan Prentice

John Glover could easily pull off a good Tywin, and he doesn't look very busy right now, he played a very similar character in Smallville as Lionel Luthor which is mainly why I can see him as Tywin, and he has the Tywin looks that I imagined.. just needs to shave the top of his head.

Cersei - Tricia Helfer. I hadn't thought of her until I saw the other posts but she would be perfect. Beautiful and capable of pulling off cunning evil. I've seen Polly Walker mentioned, but I think she would make a perfect Melisandre instead.

Tyrion - Peter Dinklage. As if there was a question.

Jamie - Simon Baker. Screw The Mentalist. He's been Jamie in my mind since I saw him in The Devil Wears Prada.

Tywin - As much as I like the idea of Kurtwood Smith, I think I'd spend the whole time expecting him to threaten Tyrion with putting a foot in his ass. So I'm coming out of left field with: Helmut Bakaitis. The Architect from The Matrix.

I want to strangle every person who suggests Tricia Helfer. Ugh.

Here's another very convincing argument for Diane Krueger for Cersei:

Seriously... we have a winner, folks. :D

Well I always liked Ed harris and to a lesser extent Kirtwood Smith for the role, I really want to trow out another of my favourates for this role in Michael Ironside, that man does evil and commanding like nobodies business and as far as I know he doesn't command too big a check. Here's a rather left field idea, but what about Sting for Lord Tywin?

I know, I know. Sting. Dune. Leather panties. But if you saw Lock Stock and Two Smoking barrels you know Sting can pull off both depth and hard-assness. It helps that, now older and removed from his former Lannister-like golden boy beauty, he has the exact aura Martin describes Tywin as having. He looks harder, more grizzled and I know he can do menacing and cold.

I can see it. At the very least, combing through the less usual suspects might set our minds wandering in some fruitful directions.

John Glover is a great pull. But, with some of the roles he's had, he seems a much better fit for Littlefinger.

Oh boy! Such a treat to be able to throw some actor's names at you. I only checked for one through this particular topic (The Lannisters) and I don't see her. I apologize for any other repetition as I post here and in the other casting threads:

Cersei: Sarah Michelle Gellar

She was my first thought as I was reading the books. I had other thoughts, of course, for casting Cersei (Naomi Watts) but Sarah can encompass the emotional totality of the role and is the right age. I've seen her film work over the years, and am convinced she can play about anything she puts her mind to. Her early role in Cruel Intentions may have been aimed at the MTV crowd, but she may as well have been a modern-day Cersei, wielding the power and coldness that comes with a certain mind-set of the wealthy. Buffy gets dismissed a lot, but Sarah made her flesh and blood and her arc as a character has no peer. Did you know Joss Whedon referred to her as their Jimmy Stewart on the set? Yep, I am definitely lobbying for Sarah.

Kathryn, Cruel Intentions

Buffy Compilation over Speech

For Jamie? Hayden Christensen - forget about the Star Wars film. I first noticed him in Shattered Glass. I think he'd welcome the chance to do a challenging role like this.

Hayden

You've already had suggestions for Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) and John Glover (Tywin) and I think these are brilliant. I couldn't help but envision PD as I read the books, and I've read them all.

Thanks for listening.
