Official Casting: Everyone Else

I'll be adding another note to my initial post, but I'll post here as well:

If the person is already starring in an on-going series, they are not going to be available for the pilot, and are unlikely to be available for the first season if it gets picked up. I think it'd be more useful for David and Dan to actually mention people who could conceivably take part, as opposed to people one wishes could take part.

Kirstie Alley as Lysa Arryn. She just is... looks, size, and can play unbalanced.

Donald Sutherland is my first choice for the Old Bear - Jeor Mormont. He's got gravitas, the voice, the age, and he's huge... throw some black furs on him to beef up the shoulders and he'd be imposing as hell for any Samwell Tarly.

ETA: I've always seen Sam Elliott as the Blackfish. Older, grizzled, wise, and still active. The Blackfish always struck me as straight out of a Western.

It's a small cameo role, but Brian Dennehy as Lord Hoster Tully.

Damien Lewis as Edmure Tully... he's a natural redhead (so his coloring is right), and he was great in Band of Brothers (has worked HBO in the past).

Ian McDiarmid as Ser Stevron Frey. He's the right age, has the Frey chin, and it'd be great to see him as a legitimate good guy for a change.

I might of mentioned him already, but just in case... Gene Wilder as Lord Walder Frey. Lord Frey needs someone with comedic timing because, evil as he is, he's written as comic relief. You need someone who can deliver the biting comments and look old with a lecherous gleam.

While we don't see him 'till ACoK, Colin Mochrie would be incredibly creepy as Patchface.

For Vargo Hoat, in this thread I suggested maybe using a comedian (and I outline my reasons why), then the next poster suggested Rowan Atkinson, which is kind of a brilliant choice! Kind of small, maybe, but somehow that might only add to his menace...how bad-ass must a little guy like that be to run a band of messed up freaks like the Bloody Mummers/The Brave Companions.

Katee Sackhoff (nBSG's Starbuck) as Asha Greyjoy. Mainly because she comes to mind as the sort of kickass female needed for the role. She'd need to dye her hair, I suppose, but that's surmountable(hell, most people believed Jennifer Morrison was a natural brunette and complained that she had 'dyed' her hair blonde in the fourth season of House).

Not convinced? Perhaps this pic will do it: http://www.collider.com/uploads/imageGalle...ee_sackhoff.jpg

Posted in the East thread, but also should be considered for a Dornish character.

Cliff Curtis is a quality actor and he can do about any accent you want. He's played a Columbian drug boss (Blow), Iraqi Shiite rebel (Three Kings) and British space crew (Sunshine). He would be excellent as an Eastern character or one of the Dornish characters, (though we don't see much of Dorne in the first book). Though I wouldn't want him "wasted" on a small character who only appears in GoT.

I second this.

Another shameless plug for a personal friend Mina Melsom. She won't do anything that involves taking clothes off, but she'd be very suitable as someone from Dorne or thereabouts. Also perhaps a person from the East.

She's a very good actress - I loved her as Saffron in the two FIREFLY episodes she did. But if she's still doing Mad Men (I dunno, don't watch the show) that could pose a problem. Dye her hair blonde and I'd put her in the running for Cersei too.

Since I went and suggested a Stannis possibility, despite him not showing up until a prospective second season, I might as well go whole hog:

Bruce Greenwood as Davos Seaworth. An everyman sort of actor, which is just what Davos needs, and he's shown his willingness to be part of an HBO original production in the past.

Bruce Greenwood, never crossed my mind, but a very interesting choice, I like it.
As it happens, I just bumped into someone last night in Death Proof who could be a good Davos either: Michael Biehn. Most people know him from the second Alien movie and, of course, Terminator, but I was surprised how... different he looked in the Tarantino movie. Harder, more "weary of life", or maybe just older.
