Not so easy to do, as it's not exactly wall-shaped. Here is a picture of Prekestolen (The Pulpit stone) from above, taken from the same webpage.

I'd almost rather they did a scale model or something than CGI, because CGI just doesn't look real enough to me. :dunno:
The best CGI is the kind you don't see. Too many filmmakers fail to realize that. Kof, Kof George Lucas.

Well LOTR was a seamless use of Bigatures and CGI for major structures. But sooo expensive, if you want to use them in an active way like in LOTR.

If you only need a smattering of middle distance establishing shots for the various castles to let the audience know where the next scene is going to take place, then a decent scale model will do the trick. But if you want to zoom in and have shots of people doing stuff while you're panning around then unless you are using a real life castle then you're in for some big expenses.

I say the drama is the essence of the story, focus on that, and the up close and personal set design to make it real. The big stuff can mostly be kept at arm's length.

If they get to series 2 then the Battle at KL will involve major investment, pretty much like Helms Deep or the siege at Minas Tirith in LOTR, if you want it to be an action extravaganza. Or it could be done like Rome where all the fighting is talked about but you see very little of it.

Its the UK folks which will probably make most of us British boarders wet with excitement. We do have the best castles you know.

Well my foreign holiday plans have gone out the window for next year. Will be dragging all the family round various locations in the UK :D

I just said that in the previous post! Your eyesight must be going or your just getting old :P Perhaps an audition for old Walder Frey?

I'm surprised, but in a good way.

Especially since this 900-year-old beauty is 20 minutes from my house. Not the best filming location, unfortunately (too many shops and modern houses nearby, plus the roof had to be rebuilt in a modern style forty years ago, unfortunately), but there's many more castles in better surroundings dotted right across the country.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

I think the hardest locations to find will be Winterfell and the Red Keep, as so much of the action takes place in those locations.

Indeed. :ack:

I'm okay with the smattering with an occasional "wow" shot, myself.
