My understanding is that it for Dollhouse it was Jossh Whedon who decided the Pilot didn't do a good job of introducing the series and not the networks. They then made a new pilot with the original pilot becoming Episode #2.

Don't leech off our following or anything...geez...usually it's bad manners to come to someone else's site to advertise your own...just saying.

Please put the casting suggestions in the proper threads with links so I can add them to our list! We'll eventually run polls to see which suggestions come out as the most popular. This will enable D&D to see what *most* of the viewers are after in the roles.

Magnar, you are a genius. What would we have to do to get him to consider this? He is perfect. I wont be able to see anyone else as Sandor from now on.

Jeff,

Don't go. Like I said in another thread, I've no problem with your sharing the link to your site (and as I'm the guy who runs the forum, you can consider that law). Obviously, other people can feel differently, but in my opinion there's nothing wrong with the link to your site. So long as it doesn't crop up on every page of every thread, it's all good.

Hello Benioff and Weiss

Thanks for creating the shot of ASOIAF into a TV series a possibilty. I don't have any specific casting suggestions yet, but I will say that the choice for Eddard is probably the most important, because his death has to resonate for pretty much the rest of the series.

Good luck in getting the pilot picked up

I don't think that polls would be a useful use of time. Contrariwise, I imagine that your project of indexing and cataloging the suggestions that have been made is very helpful to the producers and their casting directors.

Hey, I'm cool with that, no worries. Glad to find friendly faces after all. I'll not mention the site unless someone else does. In the meantime, where are they posting the forum's "aggregate" cast list, the top actors for each role? I'd like to compare notes.

Dan and David:
I shot an e-mail to CAA, but I have some alternate locations if you do in fact get picked up by HBO. (large walk-behind waterfalls, mountains with sudden cliff faces, and old growth forests... I mean huge trees, babe!) These are all in Vermont, and easily found by those who know the area. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Also, I'm a Vermonter with a BA in theater. Looking forward to making a casting call debut for this one. Whenever thou releases where said calls shall be held. (P.S. Will work for Peanuts)

Either way, looking forward to this. Even if you don't get picked up, send along the pilot. I'd be interested in seeing it.

Even if the actors who come out on top in the polls aren't the actors selected, I think that polls offer important insight into what the fans are looking for in the character. Just listing the suggestions alone implies that an actor suggestion that most of the board disagrees with gets equal consideration with one that is universally liked.

To illustrate this point, I could recommend Orlando Bloom for every role in the pilot and make a stink if Adelle didn't include them in the index. He would then be listed for every character, with no indication to D & D that all fans hate Orlando Bloom, and would enjoy him on the show only if his role were "head on pike #3".

That is not to say that they will think he is right for the role-- but without spending hundreds of hours reading every post, there is no way for them to know whether or not he is legitimately what the fans envision as any given character.

By including polls it will give D & D a sense of which actors and looks the majority of fans (who are board members) want to see in each role. At the very least it will offer some sort of ranked preference among actors suggested for roles (for some characters there are more than 20), and imply some sort of group preference where there is a large disjuncture between the look of suggested actors.

Seconded, you make a great point. I see it more of a survey rather than an election. Not that us fans would be able to decide who will play the part, but more for D & D to get an idea of what the general preferences are.

That's exactly the storycasting design focus - give Hollywood some clear "pre-project" information. I'm sure Peter Jackson knew that if he didn't get the casting right for LOTR, he'd have 10 million fans calling for blood. The Pilot (and series!) can't please everyone, but if your selection process gives you some reliable (numbers-based) pointers to what people are generally expecting, you have a better shot. So, some kind of poll or survey, with numbers, is a better indicator for that.

I haven't searched the forum, but has this group provided a "breakdown" for each character? That's a normal part of the casting process, something the writers usually give to the casting people, and really helps. Keep in mind that the studios must live with limitations, too - some people aren't available at the right time or price, or can't ride a horse, or are WAAAY too short, etc; it ain't just faces. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out where I knew the name "David Benioff" from. (Haven't seen Troy yet - not much for Brad Pitt). And then I looked at my bookshelf. He wrote "City of Thieves", one of my favorite books from 2008! Now I have no worries about GoT whatsoever. If he can keep as tight and beautiful a narrative as he did in that book, he can do it with ASoIaF. My anticipation just went through the roof :)

You should check out The 25th Hour, Benioff's debut novel. Also adapted to film by Spike Lee, with the script by Benioff, and featuring Ed Norton, Rosario Dawson, Barry Pepper, Philip Seymour Hoffman... Good stuff.
