He is big, but in a dumb brute kind of way. He generally plays toughs to support weaker villains and/or roles without any lines. He does it well, but he doesn't exactly have a talent for making one empathize with him.

I suggested him for Sandor couple of days ago too.

He looks the part more than the other suggestions that I've seen (for example, Ray Stevenson, who looks nothing like Sandor), he's big enough, but aside from that, I doubt that he is good enough actor to pull off the Hound.

Besides, if Mickey Rourke doesn't get the part the world will end. You heard it here first.

ok yeah maybe he isn't as good actor as Ron Perlman or Mickey Rourke
but they are too old and busy doing other stuff

Ray Stevenson on the other hand would work nicely too

edit to add WOW i had no idea micky rourke was only 5'11"

Both Ron Perlman and Mickey Rourke are WAY too old for Sandor.

Even so, Rourke may pull it off with tons of make-up. Perlman won't. He doesn't look the part at all, he's much more suitable for the Greatjon, IMO.

As for Ray Stevenson, he may pull off the attitude of Sandor, but to me he looks like a Jorah Mormont and totaly unlike the Hound.
Give Stevenson long black hair and a scarred left side and I could easily see him being the Hound. He's got the physique (taller than I thought, he's 6'4) and the acting skills. He would be excellent in that role.
It's not about the hair. It's about the face. His features are not even remotely close to Sandor's, especially with Clegane's sharp cheekbones and long hooked nose.

I read that GRRM saw Ron Perlman as Sandor and this was probably when Perlman was well into his 40s. Also what's old got to do with it? His face is half burnt, whoever plays Sandor will be so covered in prosthetics it won't really matter.
.... Clegane's sharp cheekbones and long hooked nose.
I've suggested it before: Richard Armitage looks a lot like Sandor is described. All he needs to do is hit the gym :P

BTW - most of the actors suggested for Sandor are way to old. He's supposed to be in his late twenties, so it would be nice if the actor playing him was younger than 40...

I know about that, but it doesn't change the fact that Ron Perlman doesn't look at all like GRRM's description of Sandor in the books.

Age doesn't really matter for Sandor, IMO, because the actor, whomever, is going to be heavily made up regardless.

He has had a REALLY hard life, he is a booze hound, he has been in countless fights, and had half his face burnt off in a fire. That kind of disfigurement washes out any concern over age, because you know the actor playing him is going to be wearing tons of makeup. And really, it is fairly easy to have someone who is 40 or 50 play someone who is 30. Because, quite frankly, they're both fully mature adults. This winter Brad Pitt, who is nearing 50, will play all sorts of ages, check it out.

Where it is hard (without CGI) is to have someone so old play someone in their early 20s, teens, because you go from mature adult to immature adult (phsyically, atleast for men).

Watch Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, a new independent film coming out soon, it is pretty good, getting lots of award buzz. And AFAIK, the character in the movie is very similar to Sandor (because it is also very similar to Mickey)

Mickey Rourke was big in the 80s, then took time off to become a professional boxer (and got his face broken), he got into drugs and alcohol, about ruined is career, washedup, and just now is trying to make a comeback. Remind you of anyone? He has a well of live experience to mine for everything Sandor goes through.

Here is a clip, just pretend the girl is Sansa and Mickey is working an accent.

Mickey is only 5'11, but as we saw in LOTR, or Sin City, you can get inches with camera angles, lifts, etc. He is obviously buff enough anyways. As much as I liked Ray Stevenson in Rome (and I agree, he is too pretty) I always thought he was a little skinny for the role.

You know... Arnold is also only like 5'10 or 5'11 but he wears cowboy boots everywhere he goes and so most people think he is taller, and he still managed to look down on everyone in Terminator, etc.
