Moshe Goldberg Rubinshteyn
What are the chances for that in the last book, Rand and Elayne start channeling Atium, Mat's and Rand's memories are explained as Copperminds and all the forsaken turn out to have hemarlurgical spikes? Werthead
Brandon Sanderson says he'd like to comment on the date being bandied around by the widget being put up by Tor, but can't for the moment. He reiterates that solid news should follow in April, either online from Tor in the first couple of weeks or more likely from JordanCon at the end of the month. He does say that Harriet is happy with the state of AMoL at the moment, which is good. However, he is also now saying that the book may end up at 750,000 words 'or more', which is a bit less encouraging (as it means Part II will likely not be out until later than previously though). Werthead
We need a Swedish speaker here :) This website is reporting that A Memory of Light will be split into three volumes and published in 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively, with the first volume given the highly generic title The Gathering Storm. The only garbled translation I could find didn't mention if this was the Swedish edition or Tor's own one. But seriously, if this is the Tor version, I can hear the outraged screams of WoT fandom from here.
Larry.
Based on the "out this November," it sounds as though it'd be the English version, unless the Swedish translator can get 400-700 pages of text translated and ready to be published in 2-3 months. Ran
SF Bokhandeln is a great SF/F speciality shop in Sweden, but they have been wrong about things of this nature before. They've made some mistakes with regards to ASoIaF that we've pointed out to them and which they duly correct. I find it highly unlikely that they'd be the ones to scoop this particular news, if it were true, so I'm thinking it's an error.

Werthead
Or not. And they've got the cover!
We’ve just had news from the publisher of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series that the last installment will be split into two or possibly three parts. Tentative plans are to publish book 12 in November this year, with two more volumes following in 2010 and 2011. Robert Jordan passed away in September 2007 while he was still writing what was planned to be the last installment in the series. It was announced that Brandon Sanderson would take up Jordan’s pen and complete the last book, to be entitled A Memory of Light. A publication date of November 2009 was scheduled. Wheel of Time fans have been eagerly anticipating the last book and the series and will be pelased to learn that they will still get a new book, as promised, in 2009 - The Gathering Storm will be published this coming November in a large format paperback. (I.e., lots cheaper than a hardcover!) The price is currently EUR 21.99, though this may change (we’re trying to make it cheaper, obviously!)
MaesterLuwin
I'm hoping the 3 volume thing is not true. I'm hoping that if it is, they don't come out with one year in between each. I'd rather have a Dark Tower type final trilogy, with only a few months between volumes.
The Gathering Storm will be published this coming November in a large format paperback.
I hope it's hardcover. Large paperbacks are probably the worst format you can get. All the bulk of a hardcover with none of the endurance. EDIT: That's one-hand Rand on the cover, but who's the girl? Wrong hair for Nynaeve, and Min does not wear dresses. Elayne? irriadin
Ugh. I really hope they don't space them out that long. I don't want to wait until 2011 to read the whole thing...
Werthead
That is one fuck-ugly cover. They've found a lower place than Knife of Dreams, which I really did not think was possible.

MaesterLuwin
Also, the cover says "Book One of A Memory of Light" instead of "Book Twelve of the Wheel of Time". Perhaps to claim that they kept AMoL one book in spirit, if not in binding?
Zach H
That generic Gathering Storm stuff really cheapens A Memory of Light, which I thought was a great title. They should've stuck with volume numbers.

It might replace stinks on ice as my new curse phrase. The title is only slightly less original than Lord of Chaos and A Shadow Rising. Too bad that press release or whatever it is isn't dated April 1. :bang:
