Quality Actor for The Hound

Recommended Posts

I'm starting to become a little bit fearful for the quality of acting that will be accepted for asoiaf. I hope that all the roles are acted brilliantly bit the hound is 1 character that really needs a top class actor to be done right. Not just a big guy that sounds all mean and gruff. Sure he needs to look menacing but that can be done via make up. But Sandor has a real profound under current that's gonna be difficult to get across. He's not just physically scarred but much more emotionally so. Getting that across to the audience along with the viciousness and almost delicate touch he has with Sansa is gonna take a real master stroke of acting.

I guess all this is pretty obvious really but i'm crappin it thinkin the acting is gonna be wank

ps. i just poked myself in the eye :(

The Hound needs a talented actor, certainly, but not at the expense of his physicality. There are plenty of big and talented actors out there. Kevin Durand is an example. Huge, muscled, and a veteran actor.

Wow, that is a really good choice for the hound, mike!

Honestly, I feel that way about all the characters, minus the minor ones. It's true though, they need to find someone good, because if they don't, Sandor will just come off as a one dimensional brute.

People keep saying Durand but the guy is not that great an actor. He was okay on Lost but showed none of the versatility needed for the role.

Ray Stevenson is the obvious choice, although perhaps a bit obvious.

if John-Rhys Davis can be Gimli, Jacke Earl Haley can be the Hound. it is known.

As much as I think some of us have to offer to the casting director, if Peter Stormare and Jackie Earl Haley are the best ya'll can come up with for him, I'd rather they ignored the whole forum.

Think younger, like 20 years.

Except the budged for the LotR trilogy numbered in the region of $300m. I know the whole budget of the trilogy wasn't spent on making Rhys-Davies look smaller, but undoubtedly it would have been a cost that could be incorporated comfortably by a big movie budget - not so a television series.

And certainly not for the pilot.

Are you unaware of the existance of Rory McCann? Six foot six, athletic build, been in Alexander and that Beowulf film with Gerard Butler. Although he is 39 years old... although i always pictured the Hound as looking older than his years, given his hard life and that.

He was briefly tipped to get the Bond spot that Daniel Craig got. Too tall and Scottish.

Whenever Rory's picture is posted, I think of him with a beard: Robert

Add me to the Durand fan club for Sandor.

John Rhys-Davies's size was actually a nice asset in LOTR. The ratio of his height to the height of the actors playing the hobbits was actually the correct dwarf/hobbit ratio, so they could be filmed together, which meant that shots that included him, the hobbits, and men/elves could be done in a composite of two instead of a composite of 3.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The Comedian.
He Scary Good.
Or
He Scary. Good.
He's brilliant in Watchmen, has one future project, and looks perfect for the Hound.

Sandor is my absolute favorite character in this series. HBO shows seem to have a decent track record of casting good actors in the shows. The Hound is a pretty popular character and I am sure that they will do a good job casting his part.

I guess I should have added the "sarcasm" tag. JEH can be a bad ass wildling, Night's watchman or other key character... how about a creepy littlefinger? but not the hound. I'd rather see (visually) Kane from the WWE, but he can't act.
