INFO: Interested in joining the MUSH?

Recommended Posts

I'm new around here and was wondering if anyone could help me get on my feet? Hallyington directed me here from the IRC. Thanks!

Welcome!

First thing's first, go have a read of the Blood of Dragons page on Westeros.org, especially the FAQs bit to learn more about the theme of the game and MUSHing. In fact, that page will probably contain all the answers you need, more so than anything I could tell you on here.

Following that, get yourself onto the Guest server and say hi to the awesome greeter folk there by typing +guest Hello!

Supposing any are around and able to respond, they'll take care of you and teach you how to get involved with the MUSH. If nobody replies, check back later, as you may just have logged in at an inopportune time of the day when our greeters are at work. Usually there should be 2-3 around to help you out :)

Hope to see you on the grid soon!

Love the time period chosen, as well as what I perceive as the manner in which it's being done.

To further that point, are there any times or places to head where I can sit-in and 'see how it's done'? I'm very interested, but even moreso in the stories and ideas people are having.

Thanks ahead of time, your friend and fellow gamer

Leonardo

There are Cameo characters available on a temporary basis that you can take onto the grid and get a flavour of the game.

You can also check the recent logs uploaded to the website or the Roleplay/Tidings board in-game to get an idea of current stories and gossip going on in the MUSH.

Hope to see you on there soon, Leo ;)

This sounds interesting, I used to play Wolfenburg, a Warhammer MUD and had some of my best experiences roleplaying there. How active do you have to be if you take part in this? As a elderly carer, I can't gurantee much time, but it would be nice to give it a try sometime.

After thirty days of inactivity your character gets placed back onto the roster. You can take part in scenes as much or as little as you want, all admin really ask is that you keep your character up to date (such as setting Relations to other characters, inputting key Events in the life of your character going forward). Just in case you ever have to leave, so there's a fully fleshed out character left behind for someone else to play.

Hope to see you on there soon. The greeters should be able to answer any other questions you have :)

Sounds very in depth and maybe a little too complicated for me and I don't want to spoil things, so I think I'll pass for now.

Complicated? Nah. I seem to do okay on there and I'm an idiot.

But do come try it if you ever change your mind, even if it's just a Cameo character for a short while. You may get hooked :)

Would a MUD client work for this as well? And is this MUSH still active?

I believe so, which client are you thinking of using?

And yes, the MUSH is very much still active. At present in King's Landing - under the directive of the Hand Prince Viserys - a fleet of ships, full of fighting men are out fighting the infamous pirate Sullehman Saan in the Narrow Sea, many of whom have been reported dead. Back in the city, grieving wives and family fear the worst.

All the while there is said to be a war brewing in Essos, as certain Free Cities act to take advantage of the Iron Throne's waning power under Baelor the Blessed, while at Sunspear there are whispers that said Free Cities may have reached out to Prince Marence, in aim of perhaps earning Dorne's support in the coming war.

So yeah, absolutely loads to get your teeth into, should you choose to join us :)

Hi! This isn't a question so much as a suggestion, I've looked through a lot of the information both on this forum and on the actual Blood of the Dragon page, but every time I just get overwhelmed by the information blast and by how completely unfamiliar everything about MUSH is to me. The pages are very comprehensive and insightful, but I still get so lost, it would be so very helpful if you did a sort of video tutorial (or series of tutorials) that would walk through how exactly to get started, and help newbies get familiar with the format of everything (especially this!). Anyways, I get that that's lots of work, but it would be such a great help, because the idea of Blood of the Dragon Mush sounds super awesome!!

@Papa Stark: I'd recommend just jumping in on the guest client and talking to folk. I found it easier to learn stuff that way.

To be honest, I've probably read less than half the helpfiles and stuff on the website. The CG stuff is invaluable but beyond that I found it easier to just learn as I went along.

I used to MUD, way back in 1994 or something like that. Is this similar? Do I pick a class? Do I fight, gain experience and skills, etc.? Or is it all just roleplay? I'm a bit confused still. But I think I might like to join in.

Ser Arys- It's all just roleplay, with some limited combat. MUSHes are much more roleplay oriented than MUDs, and ours in particular is very light on code. We do have skills and such, but they are much more meant to inform roleplay than to do skill checks and that sort of thing.

Maester Canute- If you go to the BOD section of the site, there is a panel in the upper left that says something like "Try the game" with two links listed, the second of which says 'web-based guest client'. Click on that and it will direct you to the game.

Id be intersted in joining.. where do I sign up?

westeros.org/BoD/ - then click on the link on the left for the webclient to check it out.

I rarely check the forums (it's an active MUSH, but few of us are actually here on the forums!) so sorry it took so long to get back to you. :)

I'm going to be reading up on the MUSH tomorrow. How active is the game after all this time?

Is it roleplay friendly?
