SPOILER: ADwD
Dornish mores aren't really something we know much of. One can suppose they're at least a little more sexually liberated than the rest of the regions, especially in regards to women, but we can't just take Oberyn and everyone in his sphere of influence (his daughters, Arianne and her friends) as typical examples. Doran certainly doesn't sound like he was whoring around before he was married, for example (of course, Doran may himself be unusually prudish, but then Qunetyn is his son...)

In any case, he's been raised most of his life at Yronwood, and the Yronwoods may be rather more conservative than most in Dorne, being First Man/Andalish in origin and going so far, apparently, as to ignore Dornish laws of gender-blind primogeniture (and having the power to make it stick).

Quentyn is described as fairly homely -- short-legged, stocky, broad nose, too high forehead.

That doesn't make sense. I don't want a Storm-sized book for the sake of having a Storm-sized book, only if the story demands it. I don't want Dance to be an Erikson book where you have to wade through 700 pages of purple filler to get to the 300 pages where important things actually happen.

I also wouldn't want a Storm-sized book purely for the sake of having a Storm-sized book; my concern was that, if Dance's story warrants a Storm-sized book, we might not get it and GRRM might have to shift chapters he doesn't have/want to into TWoW because of some arbitrary limit.

Oh, and on

SPOILER: a happier note:
I'm happy that Cersei chapters will be included, means this particular cliffhanger will be dealt with, even if we don't get to read the final resolution of the King's Landing storyline in Dance.

As for Davos, he's at the top of my "POV most likely to die list," not because I dislike him, but because I believe he's outlived his usefulness. Other POVs can now take up the role of witnessing Stannis's actions, and IMO Davos has already fulfilled his most important task in the story by convincing Stannis to go the Wall.

Nope. Total cliffhanger. I am inclined to believe your guess tho.

That was my guess as well. He doesn't say it, but that was the feeling I got.

As for Q's looks

SPOILER: Q's looks
Ro is right. There is not much more said about his looks, except that he does not consider himself attractive. He laments his mediocre looks and wonders what "the most beautiful woman in the world" will see in him. His consolation is that she will need Dorne, so his lack of looks, charm, etc. won't matter.

Had a great time at the Con. I'm back at work today, so my case of con crud is pretty minor, although I could use about a 16 hour nap.

Awesome job with the party room folks.

It was great to see old friends and to meet new folks, and I for one can not WAIT to hear Sean Connery's Scottish accent crying HODOR! HODOR! HODOR!

What odds:

SPOILER: ADWD
That the sellsword company Quentyn teams up with is also escorting a man of unusually short stature? :)

Maybe that's too much of a cheesy coincidence for GRRM though.

Had a great time at the Con and sad to say goodbye to Fargo (I flew in from Atlanta for the weekend where it is actually COLDER today than Fargo was over the weekend!) Was really surprised by how generous George was with his time and the panels he hosted were really interesting.

I think I shared some of the other posters' frustrations that too much of his Song of Ice and Fire panel was spent covering topics that had already been addressed in his Writing panel and we therefore didn't get to ask as many questions on the former as I would have liked.

Anyway, I believe that he is off to Dublin on Thursday and he said that he was intending on doing a book signing (as yet unannounced on his site) in London on November 11th. So any London fans keep your eyes posted...(he told me the name of the venue but it totally escapes me now.)

SPOILER: meh, better safe than sorry
Damn, another character I'm far too handsome to ever play.

Being my first con I had loads of fun. It was a very good experience. Here is what I learned:

1) Straight from George's mouth, Sean Connery as Hodor. What a casting coup!

2) George is great to hear in person. He was so entertaining and knowledgeable. I wanted to say something to him but I couldn't think of anything intelligent so I just listened. Maybe next time!

3) Everyone was so nice and fun to be around. It was a great group of people. Special shout out to Chataya. She is so diplomatic it is amazing. She could shrug off the most creepy solicitations with such style it made me weep.

4) It is way too easy to drink way too much. :uhoh: I am horrified to admit I was "that dude" on Saturday night. I was dropping stuff and weaving into Chataya. Ahhh, I have a bit of redemption I need to do at the next con.... but it was fun.

SPOILER: For the ADWD chapter reading:
There wasn't a whole lot of description on Quentyn's looks but he was definitely described as being more subdued and less dynamic than his traveling companions. And I would bet my left kidney that the plan is to join a sellsword company to make the trip. It makes the most sense.

He couldn't be serious, man. Clearly it must be a joke. Connery being Hodor? Come on...

Surely you jest. George wouldn't lie or use sarcastic humor.

I will not rest until I see some kid strapped to Connery's back...

Word.

I can see it now. He comes out in his court best, fancy basket strapped to his back drinking a martini and he introduces himself.

" The name's Hodor, Hodor Hodor."

Damn! Beaten to the punch! I just can't get the sound of "Hodor... Hodor, Hodor" said with the classic Connery/Bond accent out of my head.

Ixodes, got agree with Chataya, I couldn't even tell you were drunk. Too bad you didn't have a chance to talk to George. Now you have a good excuse to attend another con and soon.

I can't believe that George would have lied to us about Sean Connery. If it turns out to be false I'm done with SoIaF forever!

I didn't think anyone was drunk...not any of the Bwb, anyways. The chick with the tail seemed to be feeling no pain though...*lol* I really hope that we can somehow get our hands on the pics that Jim from Dark Sword Miniatures took of her and Chataya sitting on GRRM's lap!

Also, in true BwB spirit, Jacob (co-host) and I donated all the (non-alcoholic) left over supplies to the United Churches of the Homeless, a local shelter.

That is good to hear Kasteen. :)

Ix, I was far drunker than you. Need time we meet up we can have a contest to see who weaves first. :P

Em is the best when it comes to dealing with oddness. We walked by a group of dudes and one of them finally screwed up his courage and yelled HEY, with such finesse. I thought we were going to be going to watch them sing for sure, but I pressed my prior claim, to their groans of dismay.

The chick with the tail was a hoot!!

SPOILER: ADwD

Oh, I doubt that Tywin actually dispatched assassins to take out Dany before he died. He certainly would have, if he had have real knowledge about her, the dragons, and what happened in Meereen, but if he had, I think we would know about it. Kevan, most likely, would have known about Dany, too, and if Lord Tywin would have considered as great a threat to dispatch assassins to kill her, Kevan would have seen that as a real threat to the Realm, too, and would most likely not have acted like he did in AFfC.

IIRC, Robert *did* command assassins sent and it was a big fight between him and Ned. As George said, not much time has passed, and he isnt a fan of being anal about time/distances (ie the wall is as long as it needs to be and any form of measurment is off LOL@that memory), so who knows where any assassins are.

BTW, another tidbit floats to the top - someone asked how much time as passed in total and George said about two years, maybe three.

Q feared that Tywin had sent assassins after Dany, but it always seemed speculative. He didn't KNOW that there were assassins. He just feared there were.

And when the woman asked "how much time had passed" I was sure we would get the "I need to ask RAN" answer.
