Beric Dondarrion, Garlan Tyrell and Loras Tyrell

Jamie Bamber apparently auditioned for Jaime Lannister and of course, as we now know, narrowly lost out to Coster-Waldau. But apparently, the channel to be cast as other characters was left open. I've heard Beric Dondarrion thrown around, and I just wanted to throw my support behind that.

Beric Dondarrion

Jamie Bamber for Beric!

For Garlan and Loras, I really think that visualization of a fantasy knight is important. Of course my brain immediately flashes to a hack actor like Orlando Bloom...(yes, he's awful, but he's not as bad as Hayden Christensen or James Franco). He has those chivalric looks I'm aiming for. But with budget and quality over quantity, you just can't have everything you want.

For Garlan Tyrell I really like Hugh Dancy. Going back and trying to watch that god-awful film King Authur, you see a very few redeeming qualities gleaming like diamonds in a coal mine. Hugh Dancy is one of those as far as I'm concerned. I think he nails the look, and honestly, he's due a decent role as far as I'm concerned.

Garlan Tyrell - Garlan the Gallant

For Loras Tyrell don't I wish Charlie Hunnam was available. The kid is really underrated in my opinion

Alex Pettyfur is a name I didn't know before some research, but would LOVE to see this kid try and take his acting repertoire to the next level. He's nailing the looks as far as I'm concerned. Is it too much to hope that he has the chops for this.

Loras Tyrell - Beautiful

Really? Narrowly lost to Coster-Waldau? You know this how? I didn't think anyone (outside of HBO casting) was in the know about how close one actor or another got to getting cast. :dunno:

I like the idea of Hugh Dancy, he can look younger than he actually is and is definitely believable as Westeros' Mr Nice Guy.

Edward Atterton is pretty much the spitting image of Beric for me, but he may be too old now, I don't know. Beric isn't really a character whose age needs to be that important. Paul Curran also came to mind, but he's hard to find information on.

Bamber might be alright for the Beric we see at King's Landing, but I have a hard time envisioning him in the BWB. I don't think the size difference can be overcome - even if Bamber sheds most of his muscle, he's not going to be the skeleton that Beric eventually becomes- and nothing in BSG convinced me that he has the acting chops to pull off PTSD Beric.

I also think that Simon Wood would be good as Beric. Another candidate for Beric could be the France actor Benoît Magimel who I consider to be one of most talented actors in the world at the moment .

For Loras I have several suggestions:

Gaspard Ulliel: A talented actor from France. His biggest role so far was as a young Hannibal Lector in Hannibal Rising

I don't know if anyone has already suggested him, but I think Ian Somerhalder, from LOST, could be a great choice for any of those characters, and even for Renly.

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm653363456/nm0813812 (this is very much how I picture Renly Baratheon)

He is attractive, has the right age and I personally liked his acting in LOST.

Seconded. He's the only good thing in the awful The Vampire Diaries.

I agree with everything else you say except that if you're judging Jamie's acting from BSG, you'd be surprised. Watch him in the ITV Horatio Hornblower series and a number of appearances in Brit mini-series.

It's one problem with many of the Americans judging the suggested Brit actors capabilities. I'm a Brit-o-phile as far as acting goes. You're all missing a lot if you only see American TV and films. I'm also a fan of international cinema. Damn it, I'm waiting for Alatriste to find a distributor here. I'm dying to see Viggo Mortensen in Alatriste, speaking Spanish, especially since I speak the language. But I really love Indian and Asian films as well.

Oh, how about Mad Mikkelsen for Donderian or even Roose Bolton?

He was also pretty good in Band of Brothers, athough barely anybody ever notices that he's in it. (He plays Lt. Foley, one of the replacement officers.)

He'd make a good Roose Bolton, I think.

These three together probably have about 8 pages worth of lines in the entire series. All are minor characters, and will be played by unknown actors. Only reason this thread exists is because girls (and a few guys) fangirl them.

Seriously folks. Lets be patient and not overanalyse too much. Its silly.

He's barely in it. If I'm not mistaking he only appears in one of the latter episodes and doesn't get much screen time in that episode or any of the following ones. I agree he does a good job though. Now that I think about it, he actually looks quite a bit like how I pictured Dondarion.

Surely you realize this is the asoif board. Everything from Tyrion's saddle making ability to Sansa's lemon pies have been over analyzed several times over.

Yeah, he's barely in it. The thing is he had enough gravitas that I noticed him, and when I saw BSG years later I recognized him and had to rack my brain to figure out where I had seen him before. (I'm absolutely great with faces. I never forget them. Remembering where I saw them and the names attached to them is a different story.) The same thing happened with James McAvoy. I saw him in BoB and later when I saw him again, I immediately anticipated some good acting.

I wouldn't say Loras is a "minor" character, if we're classifying Beric and Garlan as such. He doesn't have so many lines, admittedly, but he still has quite a lot of significance in the novels (sort of the reverse of Brienne in that respect).

we'll start the process all over again to find Littlefinger, Varys, Ser Barristan, Renly, Loras, Hodor, Lord Tywin, and all the rest of our merry company.

That was from GRRM's blog. Ignoring the Hodor part, he obviously considers Loras as someone worth consideration when it comes to casting.

I expect they will be played by virtual unknowns, sure, but there have been threads for most characters regardless of age and screen time.

Probably could still get away without Thoros. Given that Beric is a back-ground character in GoT but has a few big scenes in aSoS, it suggests that Roose should appear in S1 also. He is again just a background character in GoT (although more significant) but has some big scenes in both aCoK and aSoS.

Walder has the biggest scenes of all in aGoT but he can be skipped most easily also. It'll be interesting to see what they do with both of them.
