Varys' "little birds" are actually birds trained to listen to what people say and repeat it to Varys to gather intelligence. This argument was mostly based on the weakness of the more widely held theory that Varys has small children, shipped from across the sea, trained to read and write, and crawling around in the tunnels of King's Landing. When Tyrion and Jaimie (and in AFFC lots of guards investigating Tywin's murder) are crawling around in the tunnels, they see no signs of the children, no feces or food or anything. Possible addendum to this theory - Varys can control the birds, which allows him to do the spying directly.2. Littlefinger had no part in the Purple Wedding, and lied to Sansa when he said that he did. His case for this was decent, although it involved a ridiculous number of moving parts. LF wasn't at the wedding, but he was in the city, and was tipped off to the murder by hearing the bells announcing the king's demise. 3. Littlefinger always lies and Varys always tells the truth. It was interesting hearing him defend everything Varys has ever done, and as I remember, there wasn't anything Varys said that could be proven to be false. Likewise, nothing Littlefinger said could be proven to be true, although there were a few things that were very likely true, but unverifiable. I miss Nightflyer. his theories were inventive, and he must have memorized every passage involving Varys or LF, because they were always involved.
