RULES

All players must ..

A1) Have an account on the mafia discussion board, with the same account name as on this board.

A2) Log in and view the thread and the discussion board anonymously at all times, unless they have informed the mods that this is not possible for technical reasons

A3) Post at least once every 24 hours. Any player who has not posted within the last 24 hours will be automatically modkilled, whether or not the mods announce this on the thread.

The mods may grant extensions to this limit in some cases (if so, they will give details in a later post). However, if they have not posted on the thread to announce an extension before the 24 hour limit is reached, no extension will be granted, whatever may have been said elsewhere. Please contact the mods as early as possible if you wish to request an extension.

A4) Send in role prescribed night actions (including the desire to take no action) within the time limit

A5) Treat everybody else playing with courtesy and respect

A6) Make any edits the mods request of them as soon as possible, whether or not they believe that the posts need to be edited.

A7) Contact the game mods as soon as possible if they feel you are at risk of breaking a rule or fear they or another person may have already done so.

Players must not ...

B1) Act in any way intended to reduce the chance of their faction achieving its win conditions. (However, should all surviving members of a faction agree that they wish to resign and end the game early, they may do so by PMing the mods privately, without stating their intentions on-thread until the mods post to announce that the game is over.)

B2) Discuss the game with any other living players outside this game thread except when told they may do so in their role PMs.

B3) Reveal any information about the game at all in any other thread than this one, or in any other forum (including message boards and chat rooms) where it may be seen by a living player.

B4) Give anybody access to any of their accounts (including game alts, if the game is using them), either here or on the mafia discussion board.

B5) Attempt to obtain advice about the game from anybody not currently playing.

B6) Post information on the thread relating to another player's past or current activity on (or absence from) the board that would not otherwise be available to anybody reading the thread.

B7) Quote, in whole or part, PMs from (or other private conversations with) the mods on the thread, or discuss the timing of any PMs sent to the mods.

B8) Post on the thread at any time after they are dead until the mods themselves post on the thread to announce that the game is over. Any posts accidently made after death should be immediately edited blank.

B9) Make any bets about the game.

B10) Offer to break any of these rules or any other rules the mods have set in place for the game, encourage others to do so or help to conceal the fact that rules have been broken.

C1) Failure to comply with the rules may result in any punishment the mods deem appropriate, including, but not limited to: a request to edit posts; formal warnings on thread; "modkilling", and ending the game prematurely in favor of one faction or none. The mods will also report rule infractions to the metamods after the game. Except where clearly stated in the rules, the mods are free to respond to any rules violation in whatever manner they wish. In all cases the mods' decision on these matters is final.

C2) Feel free to PM or IM your thoughts (or questions) to the mods. We love to hear them!

C3) The mods reserve the right to amend the rules during the game if we realize we've forgotten to cover something.

As well as running the game on this thread, the mods are also responsible for administering the spoiler thread on the discussion board. Anybody not actively involved in the game (whether spectators or dead players) can request access to this thread by PMing the mods. Please not that while in general the mods will be happy to let anybody have access to this thread, they do reserve the right to refuse access to anybody for any reason. Accordingly, please do not ask anybody other than the mods for access to the spoiler thread or give yourself access to it, even if you have the power to do so.

Once given access to the thread, spoiled spectators should also take note of the following rules, and must not ...

D1) Share any information from the spoiler thread with living players, or post such in a forum where it may be seen by living players.

D2) Offer any advice, hints or strategy to living players.

D3) Make personal attacks on players in the game or on posters in the spoiler thread itself

D4) Post on the game thread before the mods announce that the game is over.

Spectators (of any sort) who ignore these rules are likely to have their access to the spoiler thread revoked and/or to be reported to the metamods.

Alt rules

1. Only use your Game Alt account (login and password details will be sent to you with your role PM) to post in this thread. If you accidently post in you normal account please edit it blank straight away.

2. Please do not speculate on thread to the identity of any other player. Please do not reveal your own identity. Try not to mention out of character information such as location, work/school and timezone information. And don’t post stuff like “If you are who I think you are then….”

3. It is ok to mention experience levels of yourself and other player. But don’t mention what games you have played in. or if you have come from another board.

4. Remember behind each alt there is a living person, so be respectful when you lynch and murder them.

I expect every player to try to follow the Alt spirit of the Alt to the best of their ability. I understand that there may be slight accidental infractions. Action will be taken against anyone who repeatedly breaks them or I feel is deliberately breaking them. If you are unsure of what is allowed err on the cautious side, send me a PM.

Game Mechanics

1 - General Structure

Players may begin posting as soon as the mods announce that the game has started on the thread. The game begins during the day. The day ends when when a sufficient number of people have voted to lynch a player (remove that player from the game) or voted to end the day without a lynch. Many games also have time limits on the days, and if no consensus is reached when the time expires, the day ends with no lynch. When the day phase has ended, night begins. The mods will then post a scene reporting the outcome of the day. Players may continue posting in the thread but no voting is allowed. Night ends when the mods post the morning scene reporting the outcome of the night actions. Day and night phases continue to alternate until the game ends.

2 - Day Phase

During the day, players may post in the thread and vote. Some roles may have special powers which can be used during the day. See later posts for a list of roles.

2.1 - Voting Mechanics

To vote for a player: bold that player's name.

To vote to end the day without a lynch: bold the word night.

To change your vote: bold the other player's name (or bold night).

To remove your vote without casting a new vote: bold the phrase remove vote.

2.2 - Voting Restrictions

You may only vote during the day phase. You can only have one vote outstanding at any time. You may not vote for yourself. You may not edit a vote into a post. You may not edit a vote out of a post.

2.3 - Bold Restrictions

The use of bold should be limited to voting. If you want to emphasize a players name or another word, you can underline the word or post using a different color

2.4 - Majority Defined

A majority means either more than half of the active players voting for one player's lynch or half or more of the active players voting to go to night without a lynch.

2.5 - Ending the Day

The day ends as soon as a majority is reached (or, if the game has a day time limit and the players fail to achieve a majority, once the time limit has elapsed). Anyone lynched is no longer an active player and must not post in the thread. Votes can no longer be withdrawn and new votes cannot be cast until the night phase ends.

2.6 - Evening Scene

The mods will post a scene shortly after the day ends to report the results of the day actions. If the day ended with a player's lynch, the mods might also reveal information about the lynched player, such as the player’s alt or alignment. This is the mods’ choice, and they’ll explain what, if any, information will be revealed in the game rules. There are no hidden clues in the evening scenes.

3 - Night Phase

During the night, players may post in the thread but may not vote. Some players will have the ability to perform special actions. Once again, the mods decide which roles will be included for their game, so be sure to fully read the game rules and any role descriptions which may be included.

3.1 - Performing a Night Action

If your role includes the ability to perform a special action at night, you need to PM the mods to indicate the action you wish to take. Most, if not all, roles have the ability to "withhold" their powers (i.e. take no action). This will be made clear to the roled players, and, usually, to all other players as well. If you chose to not perform your allowed action, you must PM "no action" to the mods. Most games have a time limit on nights. All players must PM their night actions to the mods within this timeframe. Players are strongly encouraged to send their night actions as soon as possible. You may also send in a PM for your special action during the day phase.

3.2 - Contingent PM

If you send in a PM during the day phase, you may choose to list alternative actions contingent on the manner in which the day ended. If none of the contingencies you list actually occur, your PM will be disregarded, and you must send a new PM to the mods.

3.3 - Provisional PM

You may choose to send a provisional PM if you want to further consider your night action but do not want to extend the night if all other roled players have decided upon their actions. Provisional PMs must be clearly marked as such. A provisional PM will not be acted upon by the mods until it becomes a 'definite PM.' A provisional PM becomes definite as soon as ( a ) you confirm your choice with another PM, ( b ) all other roled players that need to send night actions have done so, or ( c ) the time limit for the night has expired.

As a courtesy to other players we ask that you confirm your provisional PM as soon as you are able.

3.4 - Last Resort PM

In extraordinary circumstances you may be allowed to send in a last resort PM. A last resort PM will not be acted upon by the mods until ( a ) you confirm your choice with another PM or ( b ) the time limit for the night has expired. Should you need to send a last resort PM, you must first seek the mods approval by explaining the circumstances that necessitate such a PM. Last resort PMs are accepted only at the discretion of the mods.

3.5 - Failure to PM

If not all PMs are received within the time limit, everyone who has failed to send in a PM will be considered to have taken no action. In addition, those who failed to send in a PM will be warned by the mods or may risk further penalties.

3.6 - Changing a Night Action

PMs to the mod can be changed at any point before the new day is announced. A PM is considered to be changed only after the mod receives and has read the PM. The player bears the risk that the mod will post the morning scene after the player has sent in a new PM but before the mod has actually read it.

3.7 - Abusing the Time Limit

If the mods have included a night time limit, it begins as soon as the previous day ended, regardless of when the mods posted the evening scene. However, this time limit is a maximum limit, and all players should send in PMs as soon as they feel comfortable doing so. Players (and mods) prefer shorter nights, as people are anxious to see who may have died and to begin voting again. If the mods feel that a player is abusing the time limit by unreasonably stalling, they may force the player to take no night action or take other appropriate action.

3.8 Preventing Night Actions

Except where expressly noted, no night actions prevent any other night actions sent in from taking effect.

3.9 - Morning Scene

The night phase ends when the mods post the morning scene. The mods will post the scene shortly after all night action PMs have been received. The scene will report any player deaths that occurred during the night, and might also reveal information about the lynched player, such as the player’s alt or alignment. There are no hidden clues in the morning scenes. As soon as the scene is posted any players who have been killed at night will no longer be active players and can no longer post in the thread. The time limit for the new day will begin with the morning scene.

Section 4 - Endgame

The game will continue to alternate between day and night phases until the game ends. The game can end after either a day or night phase.

4.1 - Winning Conditions

The game ends once one faction has reached its winning conditions, which the mods will state in a later post.

Mafia is a team game. Once one faction achieves its winning conditions, all members of that faction have won whether or not they are active players when the winning conditions are achieved.

4.2 - Ending Scene

The mods will post an ending scene and declare the game over shortly after one faction achieves its winning conditions. If for any reason it becomes impossible for either faction to achieve its winning conditions, the mods will declare the game a draw.

The game is only over when a mod posts the ending scene. Even if you know (or believe you know) the result of the game before then, you may not post in the thread unless you are an active player.

4.3 - Calling the Game Early

The mods reserve the right to end the game at any time before a faction achieves its winning conditions provided there are compelling reasons to do so. In general, the mods will end the game early as soon as one faction's victory becomes inevitable.

4.4 - Spoilers

When the game is over, the mods will reveal the alts and roles of everybody who played and also give everyone access to the spoiled spectator threads on the discussion board.

Specific Game Rules / Info Please note this post may be edited, I recommend you check it again just before the game starts.

1. Days will last for a maximum 28 hours, although day 1 will last a max of 36 hours

2. Nights will last for a maximum of 8 hours - Provisional and conditional PMs are your friend. Please think of your fellow players.

3. The game has a Mod run CF. Killer or Not a Killer will be revealed on death. The Player behind the Alt and the players role will not be revealed.

Note Symps and Vigs(unless combined with a killer role) will be revealed as Not a killer (even unpromoted promotable symps if used)

4. Replacements will be accepted for any modkilled player during day and night 1 only.

5. The Modkill for inactivity time limit is 24 hours. Extensions may be granted at the discretion of your Mods. Please PM them to request. Do not post this request in the game thread. Your Mods will make an announcement of any players granted an extension.

6. There will be a weekend break freeze. You can still post and lynch people but the end of day counter will be stopped and re-started on Monday. (nights during the weekend may also last for 12hours) No-one will be modkilled for inactivity during the weekend. The counter will reset on Monday morning. (as a courtesy to other players if you are going to be away for the whole weekend please post on the game thread mentioning this before you leave)

Roles. Every player will have a roll (Rolless Innocent is a roll). Some players may have more than one role, this will be explained your roll PM. All rolls can be used multiple times not all rolls will be used.

The following roles will only belong to (Team Innocent) the Cat Protection League Militant branch.

Grunt (Rolless Innocent)

You joined the Cat protection league many years ago, but after you firebombed that WhiskersTM factory last year (They test their product by feeding it to Cats. Feline testing is cruel and punishable by death in your book) you where recruited to the Militant Branch. Since then you have been in 16 riots 42 pet shop raids and the infamous Battersea dog’s home massacre. However even after all that you have no special skills, knowledge or powers, you even have a clean criminal record. Your going to have to rely on your quick wits, gut and luck to survive. If this was DnD you would be level 1 rouge, that’s 1d4 HP and you rolled a 1. The rest of the militant branch laugh at you, you couldn’t even get arrested if you tried.

Vet. (Healer)

Every animal welfare society needs a Vet, you where recruited after your healing skills can also be used on people. It goes without saying you’d always treat any Cat for fleas before you even looked at one of your comrades. But after that Rodents_R_UR_friends.org skirmish 3 years ago no-one doubts your ability to help the freshly decapitated.

Each night you can PM the name of a Player (other than yourself) to the Mods. If that player is targeted for a night kill he will not die. You heal will be ineffective if your are Guarded. You may not heal yourself. There may be limitations to this role (ie how many times or when you can heal) this will be explained in your role PM.

Martyr (I can’t think of a game flavoured name)

Every radical organisation needs someone willing to take the fall. You’re the reason all those grunts never get convicted. You confess to everything. You have been in and out of jail so many times you treat life outside as a vacation. Maybe you love prison food, maybe you’ve got a thing for the governor. Whatever the reason the CPS has got it in for you, your conviction list is so long now that if they get the chance next time you face a judge you’ll be sent to the chair. Maybe that’s why your prepared not just to do the time for your comrades but to jump in front of that bullet.

Each night you can PM the name of one player to the mods. That player will be healed, and will not die if targeted at night. However, if the player the martyr protects is targeted, the martyr will die in their place. There may be special rules with this role, these will be explained in your roll PM.

Soldier

This player is allied with the innocent faction. At the beginning of the game they have no special abilities. However, if they are ever one of the last two players left alive, they become immune to all night actions and gain the ability to kill at night.

The Following roles will only belong to (Team FM) Anti-Terrorist infiltration squad.

Agent FM Killer

You’re tough, hardcore and your colleagues think you a bit off your head (not that they would dare to say it to your face). You don’t care about rules, convictions or ethics really. The ends justify the means, and the ends are anyone who threatens “the Public” who you claim to sever must die. Due process is for commie sissies. You know torture works your quiet good at it really and take pride in your work. You’re certainly not in this caper for Piddles; you used to practice your art on the family cat as a young child. You’re more than capable of killing this amateur racquet you could take them out all at once, but you prefer watching the suffer in paranoia and fear. You will kill them one at a time, slowly to cause them as much pain as possible.

If there is more than one active Agent (Killer), they can communicate off-thread at all times. Each night, the Agents (killers) can send in (collectively) the name of one player they wish to target. Assuming that this player is not somehow protected and that no other role intervenes in any other way, this player will die at the end of the night.

SquealerSymp

You know who the Agent(s) are. You know what they are and what they are capable of. Quite frankly you’re terrified of them. In your delusions you think you can cut a deal with them, but you will have to help them first. Does it really matter if you betray your comrades? You want to live, but you will settle for a quick painless death. The only way that will happen is if you can convince those Agents you deserve mercy, only your actions over then next few days can do that. Who knows if all active Agents are killed maybe you will grow a pair and do their killing for you.

You are a symp, you may not communicate off thread. You know the identity of all Agents (killers) but they don’t know you.

If you’re promotable – as dictated by your roll PM then when the last active Agent dies you will take over the Agents power.

If your not promotable, and the Agents are all dead you will also die, unless there is a promotable sypm (which will become an Agent) you will then be sent your new masters identity. Please take better care of them.

Masterless symps can not win the game on their own (unless they have an active night killing role eg promotable or an unused Vig kill)

The following rolls can belong to either the Cat protection league militant Branch (Innocents) or the Anti Terrorist infiltration squad (FM)

Sheep I’ve had a special request. (if you really think I’m gonna include this as a role then you must think I’m evil and twisted…. No matter who made the request)

Radical(Vig)

You know that the militant branch needs only those truly dedicated to the cause, and some people just don't make the cut. You have long suspected traitorous collaborators have infiltrated you group and you know from personal experience that sometimes you can't leave it to kangaroo courts and mob lynching to purge these scum from your ranks. You have made a list, and you have a very sharp knife.

The Radical (vigilante) has the ability to kill one player at night over the course of the game. To do so they should PM the mods the name of that player. Assuming no other role intervenes, that player will be reported dead at the start of the next day. If Guarded you will be able to use your kill on a different night. There may be other restrictions or limitations with this role, these will be explained in your role PM.

Standard Militant Heavy Grade II (Guard)

You’re an exceptionally large block of solid muscle. You've competed on worlds strongest man. Even Ser Gregor is afraid of you and runs away whenever you propose an am wresting contest. Most people are terrified of you if you just threaten to watch over a sleeping person you they'll wet the bed and spend all night whimpering. But they won't move or sneak around.

Each night the guard can PM the name of one player to the mods or send in a no-action PM. That player will be blocked from taking night actions. However, if they belong to a group that can perform collective night actions, and at least one other member of the group is still alive, the action will not be blocked. There may be restrictions this role or limitations to the ammount of nights this role can act on, these will be explained in your role PM.

Commando (BP)

You’re an ex-Taliban commando. For years you have fought against the infidel US invaders in Afghanistan. You've survived airstrikes, rocket fire and continuous brutal close quarters attacks. You know how to survive and you still have your old trusty flack jacket. It's a bit old and damaged but it should save you life one more time.

The first time you are targeted at night by a killer you will not die. You will lose your protection even if your healed. You will not be told if/when you loose your protection. There may be restrictions to this role, these will be explained in your role PM.

Fanatic(BOMB) No-one is a dedicated to the cause as you. I mean not only did you smuggle an AK47, 500ml of kitten milk (in one carton) an explosive vest and a parachute in your hand luggage. You managed to do it without paying Ryanairs extra fees. Do you have any idea how much space a parachute takes up? You may have left the AK in your seat pocket when you parachuted out of that Hijacked plane but at least you didn't explode when you hit the ground. Still you will explode one day but at least you will be able to take someone out with you.

If you are lynched, you will explode and kill another player from your lynch mob. You may not post after you have been lynched. You will not be spoiled until you have sent in a PM confirming who your blowing up. Please PM the name on the player you wish to kill. To speed up play The death of this player will be announced in the morning scene. This kill can not be blocked in any way (eg healer/guard actions) and the targeted player will not be able to make any night actions but they will be able to post until their death is announced in the morning. If you fail to send in a name by the end of the night someone will be randomly selected from your Mob.

Brothers(Friends) But seriously guys this role may only be used if I get a lot more players than I expect.

You and your Brother do everything together, maybe even some twincest. You might as well be joined at the hip both joined the Cat protection League Militant Branch on the very same day. You know each other so well its as if you have your own special code or a telepathic bond.

Brothers (Friends) do not have the ability to perform any special actions. However, they do know that their friend(s) are on the same side, and can communicate off-thread with them at all times. This role can be given to a pair of innocents or a pair of symps (one of which may be promotable) There may be multiple groups of friends in the game; if so they will not be aware of each other (seriously I may get more players than an optimistic person could hope for)

I have 9 possibly 12 players. a few people need to confirm and give me definate answers (I can till I start PM'ing roles)

I am still accepting signups as I'd love to have 17 or even 25 players (but I'm not gonna wait for that to happen) So if you haven't PM'ed to express your interest now is the time to do so.

I have at least one person in the unspoilt spectator area with the free cookie's I know he/she/it/they would love some company.

I have a few people who are gonna join me in the spoiler section. If you want to watch and disscuss the game with people then you need to PM me to gain access.

Please also PM me if you have a question. Please note I will not be around this weekend (so if your ecpecting an answer you may have to wait till monday morning before you get a reply).

I will be starting the game either Monday or Tuesday depending on your timezone. I will not be delaying the start of the game as some people have mentioned they would need to drop out. This does mean that one player will not be around for at least half of the first day and might actually miss the first 24hrs (which is normally mostly filled with :smileysex: bad avatar jokes and possiblly links to lolcats). I have therefore granted this person an extention so they can play. I will announce the Alt of this player when I start the game. The first day has been extended to a maximum of 36 hours all other days will be 28hrs maximum. I feel it is better to have someone not present during most of day one rather than someone drop out towards the end of the game.

A lot had changed since the Cat protection league had been tipped off about the Plot to kill Piddles the Pussy. You couldn’t rely on the police to handle a job this big after all it’s an international crime. The information you received said the hit going to take place in Germany; you can only guess the exact location as you fell asleep during that part of the briefing.

You must have fallen asleep during the bit where you where told exactly what your part in all this was to be. And what the plan was. Let’s face it, you slept through a lot but with luck your comrades won’t notice your just winging things and hoping for the best. Its amazing you even made it this far. Let’s just hope someone remembers the plan.

You found the hijacking rather unexpected, but you had pulled it off without a hitch. And then there was the parachute jump out of the plane. That was chaotic and exhilarating. At least your parachute worked, not everyone was as lucky, It reminded you of rasberry jam. Looking back you can’t help but think foul play. You’ve lost far too many comrades in this operation someone is picking you off one at a time.

Another comrade managed to blow themselves up while trying to force an entry to the hut. You watched him pack the gaps in the window frame with explosive. Maybe it was just bad luck he flipped the wrong detonator. Never the less at least the explosion also blew the bloody doors off.

At least the noise never seemed to draw unwanted attention. The locals haven’t noticed your presence, so there is still hope. This hut does give a good view of Piddles home. All you had to was stake it out and watch for the gunman. It seamed so simple when you curled up in the flea ridden bedding last night. But that was last night. Its morning now and with the horrors that brought there is no doubt there is a killer amongst you.

You take another look at the bloody remains. What’s left of the body looks half eaten and the chest cavity had been ripped open. Blood, guts and torn ligaments have splattered onto the floor and walls of the hovel your currently hold up in. You feel bile rising in the back of your throat as you try not to be sick. Your not sure what’s worse, the manor in which this man had died and the terror and pain he must have felt in his last few moments, Or the fact that none of you heard anything sleeping so soundly that none of you came to his aid. He was your comrade, a brother in your struggle and fight, yet you can’t even remember his name. You swear this man did not die in vain, you will find his killers and you will compete the mission. Piddles will live.

2) I don't trust sheeps

The only mammal that is even more abhorrent as a sheep is a cow. Both miss all those character traits that we all love about cats. They're not sweet, they don't meow, they have no nrain, they don't have an independent mind, they have no hunting instinct, they don't purr at all and they won't crawl on your womb when they're sleepy. They're fauna zombies!
