L.A. Times Predicts Success

Westeros

Recommended Posts

GameOfThrones_IronThrone01_M.jpgGame of Thrones has just gotten something of a stamp of approval (or at least of very positive anticipation) from the L.A. Times in its Hero Complex pop culture blog, as blogger Amy Ratcliffe gives five reasons why HBO’s new series may be a big success. Some excellent points in there, although in the comments I did suggest one of them could use a little clarification.

Five reasons is all well-and-good, but we imagine we could come up with a few more. What would you suggest, if we wanted to make a list with ten reasons?

Isn't it a blogger who is a fan of the books/series who's giving her own reasons why people should like the series. I think that falls short of an LA Times "official" prediction that the series will be a success. Which of course the title of the thead suggests.

So, it's more like "Enthusiastic Blogger Hopes Series will be a Success in LA Times".

Some of it's the same old cliches coming from various quarters: "Medieval verion of 'The Sporanos'"; "'The Wire' with battleaxes". They are getting a bit tiresome TBO. I know why it kinda needs to be done (because even worse would be comparisons to genre fantasy that has made it to screen (big or small). I just wish it could be sold on its own merits, because I think it's bigger (in more ways than one) than all of those comparison series.
