Full Frontal Nudity

Recommended Posts

Unless you're a porn star, it's probably not taking up 90% of the day, 80%. Hell, for most of us, try 10-15% of the day.

That's a reasonable estimate for thinking about sex I would say, or at least thoughts that may relate back to it.

It's not superfluous. If it was then GRRM wouldn't have included so many graphically described sex scences in his books.

Since GRRM graphically describes food and feasting more frequently than sex in the books, clearly the specific details of each type of food eaten in the series is more important than sex, by your logic.

It's not that big of a deal.

I expect there to be sexual content in the series, just as there is in the books. I expect there to be some fabulous lingering closeups of a feast table, just as detail is paid to such things in the books. Yet, the series could still be the series, faithful and of quality, without including any particular sex scene.

It's not a focal point, it's flavor.

Keep in mind HBO is going to make big bucks selling the eventual Blu-Ray and DVD box sets of this series, and they know it. I wouldn't think they're going to do anything that is going to prevent the various big-box retailers that are squeamish about such things (WalMart anyone?) from carrying it. While those retailers have admittedly loosened up a little bit in recent years, that's going to impose some implicit constraints, I would think.

It's not like the show is going to be puritanical. Those wanting a word-directly-to-screen translation are going to be disappointed though; visuals are a LOT more lurid than the written word and movies that show explicit things literally transcribed are considered much more explicit than a written description would be (with good reason).

At the end of the day, a handful of fans might object, but I think the vast majority of us don't need to see Game of Thrones: The Porn and would rather see a tasteful adaptation where both the sex and violence are presented as a part of the picture, but not literally based on the Word of George. Hearing about Sandor Clegane's jawbone being visible sounds great in print, it wouldn't be so great seeing it on the screen all of the time.

Just my $0.02 and change.

AFAIK, even HBO has never shown an erect penis, and I don't think they will in aGoT either. Also no closeups of anyone's vag (just bush).

Other than that, anything goes. Pubes in both sexes, ass, breasts, etc. I think we may even see flaccid penis! woo...

err when did Drogo rape dany..

he was pretty gentle with her... and she was pretty agressive...

In the first Dany chapter after she has married Drogo, she says that Drogo takes her every night, roughly, from behind. So roughly that she cries. Whether that would be rape is up to interpretation - but she didn't have much say in what was happening to her body, so there was some degree of violation.

Also I love you saying that Dany finally taking hold of her sexuality and having sex with her husband on her own terms is "aggressive".

Go read again please, and retune your biases.

I was only saying that the sex scenes were not superfluous as there would be no need to include them if they were. The specific details of the feasts is also very important to help describe the level of extravigance.

Authors don't put anything in their stories unless they are important.

The main reason I would like the nudity/sex to be included is because i hate dummed down teenage crap that passes for entertainment these days and GRRM's books are better than that.

I also want the series to include any violent acts that are described in detail in the books.

I understand that it's not a porno but a certain adult level on a par with the books is not too much to ask for.

If I wanted children's entertainment I'd read junior fiction and watch Nickolodean.

I've seen many movies where what should have been a natural display of nudity due to a relationship/story's progression was obviously compromised in one way or another to get a [censored] PG-13 rating. I really don't want Games to suffer from this as well. Fortunately, this being HBO, I'm not worried. :)

I think that might even be a non-issue, as I see wallyworld's website has True Blood for sale on it, uncensored, and it might just be because they talk the same way as Walmartians, but I doubt GoT will be any racier than TB was.

I am sure there will be some nudity, but I hope they done include nudity for nudity's sake and include it where appropriate.

I just don't see how a lack of frequent, graphic nudity means something is "dumbed down" or "teenage crap".

There are definitely scenes with sex that are important to GRRM's plot...but there are also a lot that aren't. And it's clear from the previews that HBO *is* inserting sex for the sake of sex. For instance, we never "see" Viserys "partaking" of Doreah in the books, but we're apparently going to get that scene in the show. Plus Tyrion with Ros when Jaime comes to find him, another inserted scene.

I'm not saying either of these scenes are *bad*, I'm just wary of, well, "titties for the sake of titties". I'm going to wait and see how it works in the show before passing judgment, but I'm still going to maintain that the majority of scenes with sex in the books aren't important.

They aren't important to plot development (generally). But they are a feature of modern HBO entertainment, so I wouldn't get hung up on them either way (unless they go totally overboard and there is no sign of that).

Those might be there to compensate for the scenes they can't do... Jaime getting a stiffy for one.

I hope there's tons of nudity, constantly. Like, all the characters should be walking around naked at all times. That would be awesome. :3

That would explain your screen name. :P

Let's not forget that HBO is the home of "Real Sex". I don't think they have any issues pushing the limits, if necessary. I have no doubt everything will play out as it should.

I agree. They will do what is necessary. Remember, opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one. Mine is that GoT sex scenes will be on a par with those we got with Rome and Deadwood, and Showtime's The Tudors, but not to the extent that Starz presents in Spartacus. They will be as explicit as the situation calls for.

That's easy - this kind of reaction can be acted with the rest of the body. Probably will involve him looking embarassed and turning away. It's not even visible IIRC, we just know it's happening because we're in Jaime's head.
