Series Re-read (a mere 3100 pages)

There are 130 days left until A Dance with Dragons is published.

There's 167 chapters in the four novels, four prologues, one epilogue, and three Dunk and Egg Short Stories.

If, like me, you're planning on doing a reread, here's a schedule that may work for you, breaking the series into relatively small chunks from now until the Great Day is upon us.

I did this because my work situation requires a ton of hours and I don't have a lot of free time--even on the weekends--to do more reading than 30-50 pages a day. So if I've any hope of finishing re-reading it all, it has to be broken up in daily, digestible chunks. I'm considering taking release day off work to read ADWD (*hack* *cough* I'm already feeling I'll be terribly sick that day) or it'll take me a month to finish ADWD!

I've broken things up to have no more than three chapters a day.

Because AGOT has so many very short chapters, I've scheduled all of the three chapter days for the AGOT reread. That results in some short (13 page) days in ASOS), but overall, it seems to work.

Because AFFC has no short chapters (there are two ten page chapters, all other chapters are longer). there are some days that go over 30 pages. At the end of AFFC are two of the longest back to back chapters, The Princess in the Tower and final Alayne chapter (18&23 pages), these are the only two chapters that are a single day. This schedule works out with the final two chapters of AFFC on Monday, July 11th.

I also scheduled an entire day for each of the Dunk and Egg stories. I slotted them between the four novels.

All page numbers are for American Hard Cover first editions (cause that's what I have).

I started a reread about 2 weeks ago and am at the end of AGOT atm. Once I catch up with your reading schedule I'll probably try to follow it somewhat. I'm more afraid to finish early than too late, so this will help me pace myself.

Be both my son and I have re-read AGoT. Ready except for the Westeros food. I have a medieval cook book and I think I shall simply make up stuff from that.

Have GRRM get someone to do a foods of Westerso and Essos (or however it's spelled). There is a Kay Scarpetta recipe book has one, and I use it quite a bit.

This schedule is very helpful. I'm a little ahead and will start AFFC tonight, but I'm feeling pretty confident I can pace myself.

Plus, I skipped the Hedge Night stories so can always reread them in between AFFC and ADWD if needed. Can't believe I'm reading ADWD in a little more than a month :)
