Lord Raul

How "Gay" will the show get?

Recommended Posts

The Loras and Renly scene is extremely physical. Almost nothing left to the imagination. That was an education.

All right, fair enough, its not in the books - but neither is Rose the red headed hooker or whoever. I suppose one could argue with HBO's decisions to add more sex, but having decided to do that, Renly/Loras is a fairly obvious scene to show, I think.

ETA - Smegma, I gotta know, why is it racist?

People, consider not feeding the troll. Or should I say: not feeding the person who may well be just honestly expressing his opinions, but who thinks a good many of us are "perverts", can't possibly be unaware of how offensively he is coming across, and is absolutely not going to reconsider his ways based on anything we say.

Do NOT call me homophobic, I am honestly stating my opinion and would like others on what they think.

You're opinion is homophobic (or just bigoted, you can pick which). A person's opinion reflects who they are.

Also some of us in this world, are not hate filled losers, but just don't like in your face gay sex. Its repulsive to most straight men, nothing wrong with that. Nothing to be embarrassed about that I don't like seeing that filth on TV if it is not within a proper context, and its just to make some perverts happy.

I put the homophobic and bigoted statements in bold for everyone who might be confused about the feelings of the OP. No thanks necesarry, always happy to help.

And yes, if you are excited to see these scenes then you have problems.

Actually, now I don't even think you needed my help.

Look, you're entitled to your own opinions. If you don't want to see a dude balls deep in another dude, that's fine. But what differentiates you from someone who doesn't want to see any sex scene, at all, hetero or gay? Nothing. The lovely part of HBO is that you invite it into your home. So, if you don't want to see something that they show, all you can do is close your eyes and wait until its over.

But you are clearly not cool with that. Feel free to express you're opinion, but please don't hide your bigotry behind a shield of "if its not in the books, it shouldn't be on the show."

But I'm genuinely interested in what kind of shit he'll spout out next.

The scene goes on for a long time, too, actually.

Oh, just his 20 odd posts about minority actors not being appropriate for characters because it's not right and it'd only be done to appease the liberal anti-American media.

I hope that Renly and Loras not only penetrate each other's nether regions in the most graphic and sensual way possible, but that they wear Elton John glasses and belt into showtunes at any given opportunity.

OK, I just can't help responding to this part because it is hilarious:

"Also does anyone know how graphic the gay scences are going to be? Please do not post anything perverted or lude."

Clearly Lord Raul is motivated by honest curioscity, and it would be rewd not to answer, since in fact I do know. Here's how it'll go:

In a dimly lit tent full of _______________, with Renly _____________, Loras ___________ __________________ _____ on __________ and his ________________ ___________ four or five times. Brienne, just a few feet away, is unaware that ______. Every _____________ Loras _____________ __________ Renly _______ and Renly ____________, combing his hair and whistling a happy tune. Cut to an animated dream scene taking place in Renly's _____ _________________ with ____________ sounds of _________________. _________ ______________ ________ ______ _______________ if ___________________ _______________ ______________________ _______ _________ five hundred oiled naked 18-year-old boys and girls tied together on a trampoline. They exchange a longing glance and do not touch. Fade to black.

"Nuff with the name-calling and wrangling. The fact is, that you have to have a good sense of humor to have sex at all, gay, straight, or mixed doubles.

It is known.

Um. This is not cool in the slightest. What if I were to post something like this claiming I didn't want to have to be privy to all of the straight sex scenes in the show on the basis that they are straight? I agree that one can't help feeling grossed out about certain sexual acts or the idea of particular gender-pairings getting at it, but the problem with what you're saying isn't that it makes you feel icky inside, but that you seem to believe that the only audience the show should cater to is a heterosexual male one (and indeed, that you, as a heterosexual male, are entitled to be catered to). There virtually no representation of the queer community on television, and when there is it is almost inevitably exploitative and full of stereotypes.

If you don't like the gay sex scene(s) then leave the room for a little bit to get a snack or a drink of something. :/

Lord Raul...

If the HBO film kept 100% to the book, Mr Martin and half of HBO's staff would be in jail for child pornography. Or did you not mind THOSE changes; a Danerys who was older than 13 years which she is in the book?

Having said that, I dont think you are a bigot for disliking homosexuality and not wishing to see it. One can have a personal dislike and NOT be a bigot in that you dont care or mind if OTHERS engage in that which disgusts you. An analogy: Strawberry ice cream disgusts me, but I think anyone else who wants to eat it should have that freedom. And I dont want to see anyone else eat it, but I am fine with witnessing people eat vanilla and chocolate or other flavors. Thats the sense I am getting with you and homosexuality.

Find gay sex disgusting, thats fine. But it is still a form of love between consenting people, and its not out of line for a TV movie to show that love in a physical form; please remember that books can elaborate on what a character feels by eloquently written words...a movie has to show it physically. So that may also be why a Renly and Loras sex scene was added. And there may have been a bone tossed at the PC crowd also...that would be the least valid reason, but even that is not truly terrible so long as it does not compromise the plot.

Ah, yeah, he doesn't get off that easily. It's one thing to be turned off by something, but it's quite different to accuse others of being "perverts" for engaging in "filth".

I think having Renly be openly gay with Loras would discredit their story arch's. Why would the Tyrell's let Renly have Margery as wife and Loras as a lover. Those are two assests that could be better used elsewhere. If the Tyrell's want to support Renly's bid for kinghood why not just "marry" him to Loras (I have no idea how gay marriage would work in Westeros, thats another meal for bigots and trolls tho). It is stupid politically for the Tyrells to allow two of their heirs to be tied to one individual. IT makes far more sense for Loras to be at least not openly acknowledge as Renly's lover. I don't get why they would change this it really does sound like its included simply for shock value. I had enough gay sex from American History X thank you very much, its not enjoyable to watch. I don't really like seeing hetero couples fuck on tv either, its so overdone and amplified. Everybody's always getting railed out. And I'm sorry I really dont want to see Loras take it hard as shit from Renly in the backdoor. Not my cup of tea.

Considering rape to be "gay sex", really says it all. Whenever i would see a "straight" rape scene, i do not think "wow - i just saw some straight sex"

Either way: If you're really concerned enough to start a whole thread about a little sex-scene, then you're probably a homophobe. I'll call you (threadstarter) whatever i want.

Renly and Loras being gay is actually pretty important to their storylines - it explains why Margarey could still be a virgin
For the record, I think Renly is Bi. Lady Merriweather (sp?) certainly seems to think so... and I think it's not unreasonable to believe it. But, that's just a hunch, really.

BTW, i don't think it's an homophobic statement. There actually are people who just don't like gay sex. They maybe never think about the fact that straight sex could be as disturbing to an homosexual as gay sex is to them.

For instance, my aunt, who is a great, not-homphobic person, doesn't like to see two gay guys kissing in front of everybody. She wouldn't have the same problem with a boy and a girl, i guess. And i don't think she is the only one.. you guys probably know somebody else.

Maybe Lord Raul is like my aunt, who knows? the only thing is, the aunt i'm talking about is actually a great-aunt, she is almost seventy. She was born in 1930' in the rural italian country, she finished school after the fourth grade, she never married, and she goes to catholic church every sunday.

Her ideas are just a part of who she is. Seventy-years-old ideas.

Like Lord Raul's ideas. Nice.

This is why i don't think the guy is homophobic - just a bigoted. Maybe he is seventy too. Or maybe not.. but nothing of what we are writing here will change his opinion. I don't like it, you don't, some gay guy on this board will probably be really pissed off.. but what can we do?

just live him alone.

EDIT

This is HBO, it is explicit, if you don't like that then there are more than enough sanitized programs on the networks, you can always catch Two and a Half Men reruns on CBS.

LOL!

Who said anything about "openly"? I am sure it is a scene with just the two of them, in private. Does seeing Jaime and Cersie getting down at and dirty at Winterfell somehow make their relationship "open"? Of course not!

Honestly, I have a much bigger problem with the new Tyrion orgy scene. I may be forgetting something (always possible) but Tyrion always struck me as a one-whore kinda guy, to a fault. That is a pretty important facet of his character as it's a sort of twisted loyalty to a woman he is paying for sex. Having him cavorting with four whores at once makes him seem much more cavilier and less both sweet and warped when it comes to women. And (again, unless I am forgetting something) it didn't happen in the book, wasn't referenced in the book, etc. And seems out of character.

In contrast, we know Renly and Loras were lovers. A scene with them being lovers reflects exactly what we already know was going on in the book.

For those not wanting to watch the scene, I suggest time-shifting the show by a few minutes, and you can use the handy fast-forward button on your remote at the appropriate time. Or, if you don't have a DVR, you can just put your fingers in your ears, close your eyes, and say LA LA LA LA LA NOT WATCHING LA LA NOT GONNA DO IT LA LA LA really loudly for a couple of minutes.

Showing Renly and Loras as a couple in private does not mean any more characters would know about it than already know about their relationship in the books. And why would Renly being gay affect the logic of Margaery's marriage to him? Marriage between nobility in the middle ages was largely political; girls were often married off quite young, to men they didn't even know (often regardless of their feelings). The Margaery/Renly match is made to strengthen the ties between the two houses, and give Mace a king for a grandson. GRRM has also said that Loras's family knows he's gay, so I don't see the Tyrells giving two of their heirs to one individual being a problem, especially when they plan on that individual being a king; that's probably worth two.
