Just finished Chapter 52

It was mostly written in frustration...

I can understand...It required some reasoning and self-talking for me to go reading ahead after RW.

We really don't know much about the blood riders PoV and things seem to be going just a bit too perfect for the mother of dragons. It stretched credibility a bit that no one has tried to take them by force when she just had a small number of supporters with her, and I can't but help and think that Martin is setting her up for the fall.

Well, there is the prophecy about the betrayals, of course.

Once for death, once for gold, once for love. First has already happened (Drogo's death), and it is not clear by the end of this book whether the other two have happened for not, and if so which one. Jorah Mormont will likely come into play again either way.

In regards to Jon Snow, the wildlings greatly out number the watch and the wildlings have freaking Giants... I don't see a way that they don't make it over, around, or under the wall in great numbers at some point.

Read on...it gets interesting how this unfolds.

I just knew what was going to happen the moment that Grey Wind was acting up when they first entered the Twins. It became even more obvious when Lord Walder would not allow the wolf to attend the feast.

When I actually read it though I was so hurt! I had to stop reading and I didn't return to the book for almost a week.

Unfortunately I was spoiled about the Red Wedding.

4Chan spoiled me. I know, I know... what the hell was I doing in such a dreadful place? It's the darkest dark alley of the internet, a completely lawless and unpleasant board where you'll see gore and porn and racism on every page. What can I say? I get bored.

There was a Game Of Thrones thread on /b/, and I stupidly trusted it to be safe. I don't know why. I had finished book 1 but had not yet started book 2. I think the episode where Ned gets beheaded had just aired, so everyone was making jokes about Sean Bean getting killed. Safe season 1 talk. Then a troll simply wrote: "Catelyn and Robb get murdered at Edmure's wedding LOL!" I looked away as soon as my brain registered what I was reading, but it was too late.

Then I picked up the phrase "Red Wedding" here (generally I don't trust or like most of the boards here, they are all too spoilery, even the supposed spoiler-free GoT TV discussion board).

Then I watched the comicon panel where GRRM talked about how the "RW" chapter was so hard to write, and that it happens approximately half way through book 3.

So there we are. I knew it was coming and its impact was nowhere near what it should have been :(

But that wasn't the last wedding in the book :)

American TV loves to cancel shows, but that's normally network shows. Cable programs usually finish their run. Especially shows that get good ratings and are critically acclaimed. GoT has both of those things going for it. Look how many people the show has inspired to read the books. All you need to do is look at the top 15 best selling fiction lists and notice that Game of Thrones was on it for weeks after the show finished.

I'm one of those people. By the time the Red Wedding roles around, so many people will be hooked they will have to finish the series. For those that bow out, good riddance. I'm tired of people (Americans especially) being so sheltered and babied. It's a TV show. Get over it. I know people are used to their entertainment being tied up in a nice bow, but that is not what this series is about.

Honestly, everybody that saw what happened to Ned should know that by now and be ready for anything. Way before Sean Bean became a foot shorter, I learned this hard, cold fact. As soon as Ned killed Lady, I knew this show was not going to play by the normal rules...and I loved it even more for that.

I think - the worst part is that, even after many rereads, once I start to approach that scene and everything starts getting set up, my palms begin to sweat and my heart begins to pound.

All I can think of is "No, not again - this time it will be different, this time it won't happen....".

It's an awful feeling. What a great writer!

It still sounds like he wants the 'Red Wedding' to go ahead as planned, which is a good and a bad thing. Good because it's a powerful scene, bad because the show will lose loads of viewers with a single stroke. I imagine that AFFC and ADWD will be edited down a lot otherwise the show would quickly die.

Oh how wrong this turned out to be...
