Underfoot
I think it should be alright and I don't think there is anything in Silver Spike that has any real impact on the glittering stones books. Silver Spike is really just a side story to tie up the story in the north. However, you might as well read it now as you'll probably be even more lost to what's happening in Silver Spike when you're done with the Glittering Stones books.ehhhh, you're probably right. It doesn't seem as long as some of the other books so I'll think I'll just work though Silver Spike before moving onto the next four books. Saves me some money now too haha. Thanks! AncalagonTheBlack
Cook is working on a new Black Company book titled Port of Shadows right now taking place between the first two books. http://jonathanstrahan.podbean.com/e/episode-264-glen-cook-and-steven-erikson/ (at the 10:17 mark) edit: didn't know that Cook wrote a porno novel early in his career! Also in the interview,Cook and Erikson discuss the definition of epic fantasy and grimdark.
Darth Richard II
I believe that is the one he's been releasing as short stories over the last year or two, but hey if there's another one in the pipe, that's even better.
red snow
it looks like Amazon UK only does kindle version for some of these books. That or it's a mega omnibus? I've picked it up to try and will hope it's the first lot of books.

A big branch of Waterstones will probably have the omnibus of the first three books in stock anyway.

I'm moving in a couple of weeks so I can take stock. The move is partly why I try and stay digital these days - less crap to move.

His standalones Tower of Fear, The Dragon Never Sleeps and Passage at Arms I really like.
stonebender
I just finished the first Dread Empire book. Pretty cool. Not quite what I expected based on Cook's reputation for ground level grit. More in the vein of Moorcock's sword and sorcery stuff and the Amber books. AncalagonTheBlack
Going to start my first reread of The Black Company in a couple of days,as soon as i'm done with my current read. The omnibus editions are really handy for a reread, and i do love the cover art! I'm excited and nervous to see how the series holds up to a reread after a long time since i first read the books.

They hold up very well, at least the first 3 did for me. I skipped the rest and re-read the last few chapters of the last book of The Books of the Glittering Stone. I just can't suffer another re-read of the book where Murgen is the Annalist. I just don't know how I went through it the first time. It's dense, difficult to read and yet in the middle of all that madness are throw-away lines which explain a lot later on. It bothers me that no one can actually write like this. It's as if someone transferred his train of thought directly to paper. Sitting down and writing a sentence takes knowing what are you going to write. For example a lot of times he just throws in "Wait, what was that?" and the chapter ends or he continues almost without a pause. It conveys how mad he has become, And how creatures from the Plain are playing tricks with him , but I'd see it much more easier to comprehend if someone else was the Annalist and had the duty to write down everything Murgen utters. Regarding the death count. They are all involved in a profession where premature and violent death is a constant possibility. I suppose One Eye and Goblin both got the deaths that they perhaps didn't deserve but I suppose they appreciated the rest that comes with finally dying. I don't actually think Sleepy dies. I think (hope) it's staged in some unexplained way. She mentions a couple of times before how she hopes she would be able to just retire and escape somewhere, hopefully Dejagore and live the rest of her life in anonymity. Then she mentions (or attends the meeting where it is discussed) that gates where they eventually attack and 'die' is probably the place that would be full of traps and surprises. It's probably just wishful thinking, but still. Mugaba is probably my favorite character out of the people that were introduced after the initial series. Apart from his diet (bet, hey, that too serves a purpose to highlight a point about the Company and its ancestry), his ambition, consequent guilt and the feeling that whatever bad happens to him towards the end is deserved and welcomed - were all refreshing to read. He seems like perhaps the most human of all the characters, (again, apart from his eating habits). I actually cheered for him when, I think, Tobo got ambushed and Mugaba finally could crush the snail shells that littered the Palace. Tobo was a real cunt. He too was very human in a very douchey way.

End of Disc One
I forgot this was being adapted, or I just didn't know in the first place. I can't keep up anymore.

redeagl
I am skeptical of all these adaption news, don't think that most of them will make the screen. That said, wooooooohoooo Black Company on TV ( or cinema) ? Yes please. And a new book too? I must be dreaming. 1 hour ago, End of Disc One said: I forgot this was being adapted, or I just didn't know in the first place. I can't keep up anymore. It's not hard.
