Glen Cooks The Black Company series

So question - I remember reading a long time ago that Port of Shadows is simply the collected version of all of the Black Company short stories that have been published over the years (like "Shaggy Dog Bridge" from the Fearsome Journeys anthology a few years back, etc). Is this accurate?

"Tides Elba" and "Smelling Danger" are 2 chapters from Port of Shadows. The book itself is a lot bigger than that, so even if all 5 short stories were from the novel (and I don't think they are, the last couple IIRC are set after The White Rose), the book would still be mostly new material.

I went ahead and bought the ebook, and it looks like "Shaggy Dog Bridge" and "Bone Eaters" are not in Port of Shadows (unless they have been renamed). "Tides Elba", "Bone Candy", and "Smelling Danger" are all chapter titles.

Yep, that's it.

Reading it now and it doesn't really feel like a novel. Just three short fiction pieces cobbled together and padded with filler material.

It's fun to be reunited with the old crew, but so far PoS is nothing to write home about. . .

About 100 pages to go and the book is still underwhelming. Like Cook is just going through the motions.

It's not bad per se, just extremely lackluster. . .
